@Raevenswood

@@m.z.9411 people are pulling thousands of shots out of the R6 in electronic shutter high frame rate mode and barely putting a dent in the battery. The sensor in the r6 is supposedly the same sensor from the 1DX mkiii and it shoots action just as fast plus the autofocus in the R6 is actually better than the 1DX mkiii. Where the 1DX still wins is the build durability and the weather proofing/bomb proofing of the body. So if you don't need 100% weather sealing for the most extreme conditions then the r6 has very parallel performance for 4000$ less.

@@cow77cow Honestly, that is what I did and I am absolutely in love with the results. Ultimately, I could not justify the excessive prices of Canon’s lenses - especially when there are so many great ones available for Sony E-mount system. Also, I am saving up for Sony’s new f1.2 50mm. It is pricey - but, because I have made so much with my “cheap” Sigma lenses, I can justify that one purchase.

I really loved the review especially the photo side of it, regarding the R5 and R6 overheating you did not cover the topic as detailed as the rest of stuff (I understand that cause these tests are time consuming on another level), for example with 1.1.1 firmware the outside temperature influences more, to a degree where the overheat will not happened if the outside temperature is lower than 15 degrease C at all and its preventable with a external cooling device (small usb ventilator will do, until some third party solutions apear), also with the choice of using an external record device you can use it in 4kHQ mode without the overheating, external recording is something that happens often at professional shoots. Also the R6 has a better cool down times than the R6 and cools down while using 1080p modes and taking photos. Regarding sharpness in video R5 also has a 4K crop mode(close to super 35) that is a decent quality and similar to HQ mode regarding detail and it does not overheat. Still you got a subscriber, great content.

Excellent, thorough and balanced review. Thank you. I bought the R5. It's got to be the best camera for Canon DSLR users moving to mirrorless. I was moving from the EOS R, A7R III and A7R IV cameras which can all be bought new for around half the price or less on the grey market. The Canon R5 was great with the RF 50mm F1.2L and RF 15-35mm zoom but I was disappointed by the sensor and the cost of that little RF system was over £7000! I actually preferred the R for the overall look and that was a surprise and a great disappointment. At the low ISOs I use I can't see much actual difference between the Canon R5 and Sony sensors. I really want IBIS so I ended up going back to Sony for value for money and the wider lens collection eg the DG DN Sigma lenses.

I have never had an overheating warning, and I shoot a lot of interview type footage and corporate stuff. The footage from both cameras works perfectly with the C100 and C200 footage we shoot as well. I love Canon’s ease of use, ergonomics, out-of-camera colours, and professional support - and glass! EF glass works natively on the Rs, and the RF glass is amazing! I also own Fujifilm, recently had Lumix, and shoot at work (day job) with a GH5, and C100/200 combo. I always bring my Canons though! So many great cameras to choose from! Just go shoot!

You forgot an important thing... sony second market is full of cameras and lenses and cheap! Sony develops a camera each year or two, so the second hand market is better. The a7riv now in internet you can find it at 2400€ otherwise canon r5 is 3500€. Lenses... canon lenses are very very heavy weighted not as the sony new line GM primes. Don’t forget too that sony has loxias, voigtlander, etc to use your mirrorless as an small camera like leica. So for price, real second market opportunities, lens selection, faster cameras upgrades, etc I will choose sony. For the total qualitity no matter price and weight i choose canon. Given that both the sony cameras are 1yr+ older they can be got significantly cheaper. For high still res sony gives 2 options of 42 & 61. Both panasonic & nikon have an older high res model so canon had to give extra in terms of video specs & what seems to be one of the best ibis systems. However the sony a7r4 with its extra res gives the possibility of more cropping & reframing - hence a kind of sensor zoom - and also possibility of animating still images. It also has acrop sensor camera but in. The video is very solid & it gives more detail than the earlier sony bodies + better crop mode so a lot of flexibility. Its a very well balanced camera. The canon r5 has put in a lot of great technology but has a lot of glitches. The r6 wil have to eventually contend with the future sony 7iv which should extend the video specs. The problem is with canon one is never sure when they will use a cripple hammer. The lens & adapter system is more evolved for sony now. For canon most they are concentrating on speciality expensive often heavy lenses (as did sony in the beginning). Now there are a lot of great 3rd party lenses - also lightweght bringing out some of the advantages of the mirrorless system. Also the price of earlier lenses have decreased. I also donot now how good the canon ibis is with manual lenses. I changed fron canon to sony in 2015 because I felt mirrorless was the future and sony was evolving a more thought out system and constantly providing new technology & with each generation more calibrated. Ironically what the earlier canon philosophy was - in the film days too.

As someone who has the SIII and my old A7III getting the R6 would be dumb for me, even if a lot of the photography features are better. Nothing in canon comes close to the SIII without either costing more (c70), or overheating (R5). I need the A7IV pronto. Regarding the Ergos, I think the SIII is perfect. I have fairly big hads, but I'm willing to sacrifice the ergos of canon for the smaller body size of sony. My backpack can be smaller, and i can afford to have larger lenses in a said bag with a smaller body. Also I see a lot of new A7III going on sale frequently for 1799 just deal hunt!
