SLshop UK sell a fantastic push-on cover which is almost undetectable for a few hundred Australian dollars delivered. Sure beats the whole process or removing dash and fixing with bondo. It buys the time to maybe save up and actually replace the dash instead of repairing it and waiting for it to fail again. Your seat spring trick was similar to what I did but I used about $30 in AUD 50c coins, I believe about as thick as your quarters. It took about 20 minutes each side.

Yes i would definitely go with the cover next time! I was so over budget on this project and really wanted to save money and experiment at the same time since i had to remove the dash anyway! Thank you for the view and comment!

I have the exact same car, same color, same year I can’t wait to see your finished product. I so wish I had you around the corner. I have a crushed cracked Dash as well. Most everything else is in working order although my odometer died on me and I can’t find anyone to fix it I can’t find one. Apparently everybody tells me it’s a nightmare what else the body is in gorgeous condition maybe where the shift consul is that wood could be replaced but I wanna original or somebody to restore it rather than just got up after Mark reproduction anyway excited to show your finished product. I should send you a picture of mine.

Awesome that you have a twin to this car! There is a website that will fix your gauge cluster, I think it is around $500 though, also, I believe they sell original wood as well. I have a few more episodes on my channel including a "finished for now" video!

For that seat spring I found it easier to put one bolt in, hook the spring up, then use a bottle jack and a small piece of a 2x4 to push the whole thing to line up with the other bolt hole

You spent money on new dash speakers yet didnt remove the speaker cloth that you spray painted in the grill covers. The sound you will get will smothered.....to help you remember how things go back, take a picture before removal of each piece - then you have a visual reference in your phone and ni extra parts!

Thanks for your comment and attention to detail! It sounds okay right now, but that is a good point, if i get a better radio in the future, i will definitely address the cloth which is plugged with paint now.

First this is awesome and you're doing great work but why vinyl? Mercedes used real wood. Get real wood pieces. And why didn't you restore the heater core and fans when the dash was open....

Thank you for the kind words! Vinyl simply because i was way over budget on the project already and could not afford the spend the money on new wood trim. The original trim is much worse than it appears on camera. In the future it will definitely get the wood trim it deserves! By fans, do you mean the blower motor? If so, it works perfectly and it can be changed from the engine bay. The heater core works and therefore was also not replaced
