I find the Anson card to be the most intriguing card you mentioned. First, he's a native Iowan, and second, that's some pretty good work for the time period to get that card to look as good as it does. Appreciate you sharing.

I do have a few more examples in my back pocket so I just might extend it into a series.

Love the segment. Knew the story of the Reese but didn’t know it was colorized - still to me the most beautiful card of the 50s. Had no idea about the superimposed head and body or that the artist changed the Mantle photo to a catch. You asked for some other cards - the ‘56 Aaron had Mays in the action shot, ‘77 Reggie Jackson is famously an airbrushed picture of him on the Orioles - a few Oriole proofs exist and they are awesome. Great segment.

So, if the '56 Mantle card features a photo from 1951, does that make it a rookie card? ;-)

It makes it even better knowing it's a shot from his RC year

55 or 56 Aaron, can't remember which, the action shot is actually Willie May's sliding into home.

Great episode! Love this stuff. Daytona City Park is now called Jackie Robinson Park. I recently did a short that shows a shot from Homeplate. I have an 1885 Harpers Weekly magazine page, with a woodcut of the Chicago team that you showed.

The doctored Anson image is pretty well done all things considered. Although it is not really the same kind of thing, I've always found it interesting and amusing that the trivia on the Koufax rookie is incorrect, making it deceptive in a way.

I have a card dual signed by Ray Herbert and Bob Farley (background) from 64 Topps. Farley was on the team years prior only in 62. Herbert died in 2022, Farley is still alive. I think the Griffey would have been cool with the SB cap.

This may be unwelcomed news to some, but I love the truth. Perhaps the trajectory of the Mantle ball is coming straight down?
