As far as graders go I like HGA as the 4th. The CSG has zero eye appeal. Great video

With all the turmoil in the global finance industry. Countries dropping the Dollar and investments moving to precious metals like gold etc. Cards might hold their values better than one might think. Vintage will always be the safest bet. 90's rare inserts are great and have some of the best eye appeal, but the steroid era will always loom and cap it's value. Goats and key cards will be the way moving forward. IMO of course. Thanks for the great video.

All I know is slabbing will be different, Panini will have folded and Fanatics will have releases with logos for nearly everything. People will still be jumping to the next Pokemon etc. Geoff Wilson will hopefully have moved on. No idea if retail will be around. It's all gone everywhere here. Trout's cards will go up when he switches teams, but only for a minute and go way down if he's hurt again.

Who knows with Fanatics. But I believe Fanatics could potentially hurt the modern sports car hobby in the next 4 years. I don’t have faith in them fixing overpriced hobby boxes and overproduced cards. They spent too much acquiring the rights of Topps and all the sports to not want to crank the presses to make back all that money. And if you’ve ever bought a branded Fanatics t-shirt the quality on their products are terrible. Which makes me think the quality control, which is currently bad on Topps and Panini, will continue to be bad. As a result of all of this, less and less people could buy new product which will drive down the price of modern sports cards. I think Fanatics will figure it out eventually, but not initially.

I think prices will depend on the economy. in 2027....If its good and people are happy they will be building on their wish list cards and collections..If inflation or worse is high the card buying interest and prices will suffer...My opinion..

Very true. The economy will probably have a lot to do with it. The economy was booming the entire time Trump was President and crashed afterwards. Who's suprised? The lockdowns and stimulus checks just made the predictable outcome more hyperbolic. The next election will have a lot to do with card prices in 2027...as well as global conflict... which could be devastating.

Another good video! It is impossible to crystal ball the future, but enjoy listening to your opinion. Thank you for sharing. Look forward to your next video.

Really enjoyed this video, you raised a number of good points. I agree on the direction of the high pop cards and your Luka projection was even more extreme than my thought. Glad to see you incorporate hockey into the mix.

I somewhat agree Ben. I think many of the hobby grifters will have moved on to other things, and I bid them a speedy farewell!!! I also think Fanatics will hurt the hobby, as they are about to make the printers go brrrrrrr 24/7. They've just got way too much in licensing and acquisition costs to control print runs, etc that the hobby actually needs. I don't see vintage getting as low as some of your expectations, and on the same token I expect the modern stuff like Trout and co to be even lower than your guesses. I think Pre-War is still the safest route, and I'll continue to just pick up low pop stuff in that sense. I think the next 2-3 years will be the best buying opportunities for rare vintage in the next decade.

Yep I agree with Fanatics hurting the hobby, at least short term. They spent too much acquiring the rights of Topps and all the sports to not want to crank the presses to make back all that money. The only vintage I had on the list was the Aaron and Gretzky RC, which I do think will go down. They are already steadily declining in price. There's actually a fairly large supply of 1954 Topps. And agreed, I was pretty conservative on the modern card price guesses. I don't think the prices are the floor on these cards either. I can see Topps Update Trout PSA 10s selling for less than $300 eventually, but that might take 5-6 years. And agreed, low pop Pre-War will always be the safest route. And for the most part T206 is always safe, easily the most liquid, and Tobacco Row is always pumping that set.

Seems like you built a formula to predict prices. Something like (average 2019-2023)* (multiplier involving pop). While I agree most will soften there is some other factors lurking like inflation currently. You probably need to adjust 2023 to be 2019 dollar values to get a clearer picture. Example the Griffey after adjusting for inflation in your example would probably mean its almost worth less in 2027 than it was in 2019. Is this your intended result?

Interesting video. Did you adjust your prices for inflation? Money will be worth less in 4 years than it is now.

Good video. I think most people in cards prior to 2020 with a few years or experience all knew the prices would crash. Before 2020, the hobby churned through people. I saw people come and go. They buy high or chasing a rookie and sell low as all cards come to earth. I do think it is the best time today to make money is #thehobby. And it's not buying slabbed cards and flipping or holding. that is only the tip of iceberg. Really love your card research and picks details.

Enjoyed the video Ben! I think higher population cards will follow the exact trend you're describing. So in essence - I agree. Low pop high grade vintage will hold its value imo. The one curveball in this is how will fanatics add to the hobby. If they really 10x the hobby which is debatable that could theoretically increase demand. We'll see.

They definitely have the chance to add some exposure, but you have to wonder if they’ll add to and/or create the next junk wax era. But agree, high end vintage will be okay.

I think there is too much money is slabs and most of the companies don't need to be great, they just need to be profitable. GMA and KSI are still around. Anyone can grade. You know it's easier to open a grading company then a hair cut parlor. You need a license to cut hair. :)
