I learned from another YB channel that Milorganite sprinkled around the little Hosta buds and then again when the leaves begin to unfurl, will not only fertilize them but also keep the deer away. It works--and my Hostas look beautiful. Lots of water and shade. I know some people will not like the Milorganite idea, but it works for me. You have gorgeous plants . Thanks for the tour.

One thing that you didn't ask and cover, do I plant in sun or shade? And if in the shade does it get any sun, how much sun?

In my book, hostas are a shade plant. I have seen them planted in sunny areas, and they just don't do well. They don't like hot, too much sun or dry areas. Shady areas are those that get 4 hours of sun or less. Partially sunny is defined as 4-6 hours of sun, and full sun is more than 6 hours of sun. So, stick to shady to part shade areas, and they will be happiest. Shade from a tree counts too. Happy gardening, and thanks for watching Prairie Yard & Garden!
