Ultimately, you are in charge of your own career. You will meet many people who will help you along the way. "Fake it 'til you make it" is the worst maxim to follow. Never be afraid to ask stupid questions once.

I think you should re-title your videos and make these for professional jobs in general because a lot of your advice translates well into many industries.

Welcome back both to this familiar backdrop! Hope that your trip was fruitful and rejuvenating. Great attitude. Focus on how we can control and ask how we can do better. Lloyd sounds fine! Canadians are very friendly people. Thanks for writing me back. Yes I comment on your videos because I want genuinely want to help fellow Hong Kongers. Omg you have 20k subscribers already! Hope that you'll get sponsorship deals.

Great vid guys, some really good insights! Also a quick general question: were laterals from overseas common in your firms? And if so, what areas of practice did they tend to join?
@EmandLloyd
Жыл бұрын
Thank you! When I (Lloyd) was in London, there were a bunch of laterals from overseas in the Banking team specifically (likely due to a combination of difficulty hiring and the fact that Banking practice is quite similar across jurisdictions), though other teams had laterals too.

what kind of skills/ qualities do you guys think are important to have as a lawyer? any tips to strengthen attention to details skills and business awareness?
@EmandLloyd

Lawyers are often expected to break down and rationalize any set of facts/circumstances, so having the ability to form and understand arguments from different perspectives is super helpful! Attention to detail usually comes with practice - the more you work on proofreading, the better you get at it. Regarding business awareness, we made a video on this which we'll link to here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/u2x8vGZ-sKR6jaA

What about being rejected without even getting an interview?

This also, unfortunately, happens a lot - most people we knew in law school (including ourselves) applied to a pretty large number of firms to mitigate against this, and/or if grades are an issue, some people took additional courses or tried to get work experience to make it easier to eventually secure a job.
