@@nthdegree1269 Have you listened to the original album? Murray Head has so much anguish in his voice. Just listen to Heaven On Their Minds. I'm not saying Carl Anderson isn't good, but he doesn't hold a candle to Murray.

@@iancollins3991 I grew up in the 1970s. Yes Murray Head had a great version, but, Carl simply took it too another level. His "Little Richard Type of Growl" that comes toward the end is highly emotive. I also prefer Ted Neeley to Ian Gillian in his pieces. Not that Neeley is a greater or better singer. Carl Anderson was the version that stuck in most people's minds when I was younger among people who used to listen to those sorts of things.

Nth Degree I guess we will have to agree to disagree. I don’t know how anyone who hears Gillan’s version of Gethsemane can prefer any other version. His tortured screams in that song drip with so much emotion, I get goosebumps every time. I don’t get that from Neeley.

I had the pleasure of seeing a private show with Carl Anderson, honoring his birthday, soon before his death. I said to him, "Carl, I watched you all my life growing up!" He said, "Stop, you're making me feel old!" RIP Carl. You were truly great.

carl anderson was so talented. that show was probably filmed at 7 am and that backup band sounds like they're playing the music for the 1st time ever and the tempo is way too fast, but he still absolutely slays.

Most recordings around this time with Carl Anderson (that I've heard at least) are at this tempo, regardless of where its being sung, so maybe Carl wanted it that fast.

i was lucky enough to see carl anderson in the 25th anniversary tour in 1997 ..3 times! once in l.a. and twice in toronto with the second in the front row. i actually ran into mr. anderson in a restaurant during the run. he stood like a statuesque athlete, charming and warm, will never forget it.

Such a beauty! Such a soul and such a voice! We sure will never forget him. The movie came out 17 years before I was born, but the film has marked my life forever since I watched it again and again thanks to my father when I was a child. Watching old episodes of the Tv show Hotel, Mr. Anderson was singing as a guest, with the beautiful Sherry Belafonte, I discovered this awesome gift. Also discovered he’d passed away from Leukemia. Rest in peace Sir. Wonderful voice.

He made a great point about JCS fans. I hadn't seen a live broadway style show before JCS, nor do I plan on ever again. I am not really a fan of them. But when JCS came to town, I got tickets. Both Anderson and Neely were bloody amazing. Not much impresses me, but I was knocked off my feet that night.
