During July 1954, Perkins and his wife heard a new release of "Blue Moon of Kentucky" by Elvis Presley, Scotty Moore and Bill Black on the radio., and Valda told Carl that someone in Memphis understood what he was doing and he should go see him.

Despite whoever got on the radio first or whatnot, they both made incredible rockabilly music that will continue to enthrall people around the world. In the big picture all this trivial stuff about who's on first doesn't matter. Just enjoy the music.

I agree Garrett. It is about the music. I just feel bad for Carl. I don't think he got the recognition that he deserved.

When Carl and Elvis started touring together, Carl said that he was more popular than Elvis which he didn't understand because Elvis was better looking than him. In my opinion, one of the top three founders of Rock and Roll. Others two are Little Richard and Chuck Berry.

Yes! Carl Perkins was one of lthe original singers that started with 'RockaBilly' which morphed into the Rock&Roll scene later with his "Blue Suede Shoes". I agree that he did not get the credit he deserves as one of the pioneers.

This television broadcast was made in 1957 on Tex Ritters Ranch Party Show which was filmed in California. Carl and his band performed 4-other songs on this show as well. Also, this show was not done live, but filmed for broadcast at a latter date and the audiance you see is just stock footage used for the broadcast. Go cat go.......

Yes, Garret ,.. but what you fail to mention is that Elvis copied that from Perkins when he saw him do in in Jackson, Tenneseee... Elvis just made it on the radio first.

Do research. Elvis saw Perkins perform at the El Rancho in 1954... and copied what he was doing with a little song called "Blue Moon of Kentucky". Elvis was the pretty boy.. but if you ask me the king of Rock and Roll was Carl Perkins.

Every time we listen to great rockabilly artists doesn't mean we have to suddenly start dissing Elvis. Without Elvis rock n roll wouldn't have become as wildly popular as it did. Haven't you ever listened to Elvis at Sun Records? Stuff like Just Because or Mystery Train is just as good or better than this.

@jehovahuponyou -you obviously don't understand the way Carl moves in this - there's nothing wrong with it - this clip is under two minutes yet Carl crams everything into that short time - a great groove - a great solo - a great vocal - I've done TV shows myself and a lot of the time you walk away thinking it could have been better - how can this be better - it's perfect - stop moaning, man.
