I've lost many-a-fish-skin to the grates and the burning inferno below. Not this time. NOT ANY TIME EVER AGAIN.

This recipe was EXCELLENT. Only tweak was I added a heaping teaspoon of honey to my vinagrette to better suit my palette. I have cooked more of Carla's youtube recipes than any other youtube chef.

Lifelong Alaskan. Decades as either a subsistence or commercial salmon fisherman. Tons of reds (sockeye) in my freezer every year. Great job, Carla. Still can't seem to get my family to eat the crispy skin. To be fair, I didn't grow up eating it either. I used allepo pepper last time I made fish too!

carla hi just saying you have become my fav food youtuber. i’ve done youtube videos before and keeping the energy up on camera is hard. you do it so effortlessly. and your style of fostering parasocial connections with your audience is unfortunately so effective 😩 anyway not only are your recipes simple, versatile, delicious, and expansive to the average american kitchen repertoire, you’re also so charming. also i’m a GAY BEAR you pander directly to us so of course i’m powerless anyway i’m off to fire up my grill this is humiliating that i wrote all of this bye 💀

I feel free after watching this! Beginner Griller - love to roast salmon in my oven but hate the heat in summer. Now I have this solution. 🤗👏🏼👏🏼 Question for the experts: do you all “clean” the grill with an onion? Would love tips on grill (and grates) maintenance/upkeep? 🖤

Hi, I follow you with great results but you never mention fish scales that inevitably sneak onto the cleanest salmon: In crispy skin are they rendered edible?

Hmm, not sure what I did wrong. I followed the method here exactly and by 6 or 7 minutes in my fish was sitting in a good quarter inch or so of boiling liquid, which I presume was fat. It still came out okay but the skin was way, way too cooked and I had to flip it over much earlier than Carla does here. My slits into the fish were much deeper than Carla's so maybe that threw things off. Anyway, will try again!

I hate you so much right now. I want to grill and devour this _immediately,_ but I currently reside in a household that dislikes fish in general, and any onion that is not fully cooked, and it is raining, too. :-/

Any fish I have tried served like this, including salmon, isn’t scaly. Just try the smallest amount and see.

Doesn’t the pan kind of counteract the grilling benefits? ESP if you don’t close the lid?
@CarlaLalliMusic123

Not really. I talk about it in the video. Benefit of high heat, large cooking area, and smoky aromas even when you’re not directly on the grates.

A truly yummy (and easy) glaze for salmon: 1 Tablespoon each: brown sugar, melted butter, olive or vegetables oil, honey and soy sauce. I love salmon, but I'm not a fan of any kind of fish skin. I remove it before or after cooking.
