Excellent explanation! I discovered the Snyder attack pretty much by accident, while trying different responses to the Sicilian, and was surprised how well it worked, considering I'd never heard of it. I agree with all your points. The two bishops aimed at black's kingside, the failure of black's e5 as counterplay, the use of f4 (which actually works and doesn't turn into a white disaster), the cramped black position around the queen. It's quickly become my favourite response to the Sicilian.

Did both grandmasters miss mate? White bishop takes e5+ first, then Rxf7+ and Qh7+, then the king has no escape because of the covered d file by rook on d1?

After White plays 11. d4, Stockfish likes 11...00 for Black. By playing 11...cd4, Black reduces the some of the pressure in the center prematurely and makes playing g4 possible in a move or two for White, leading to increased pressure on the king's wing and eventually on Black's king-side castled position. After 11...00, if White were to play 12. g4 immediately, Black can play in the center with 12...d4. In that position, Stockfish gives a slight advantage to Black.

On 10:32, You missed to mention the winning move while explaining why Rook takes f7 is not the right move. So I believe you was about to say that this move needs to play bishop takes e5 first trying to open d file. If black takes bishop then you can proceed with Rook take f7 and Now it is forcing mate since d file is now taken by the other Rook. If Black refuses to take bishop then he has to cover f file with bishop and that fails for white bishop take black bishop and this is a complete winning position.

9:36 So I understand the correct tactic he's referring to starts off with Bxe5+, dxe5, Rxf7+, Kxf7, Qxh7+ I see how Ke6 results in checkmate, but what about Kf8? If you check with the queen on h8 or h6 he just repeats going back to Kf7. Qf5+ or Rf1+ allows black to sacrifice the bishop Bf6 and open an escape path. It's still a losing position for black with the passed pawns and maybe black has to sacrifice his queen to get away, but I feel like I'm missing a forced mate here.
@andrewandsueniemeyer6958
5 ай бұрын
If you do Rf1+, the white queen is still on h7. So, no escape for the black king. Bf6 is forced (or Qf6). Either way, Rxf6+, Qxf6, xf6. White queen is eyeing g7#. Stalling by Re7 results in Qxe7+, Kg8, Qg7# The problem with Bxe5+ is dxe5 isn't forced. Kg8 (or Kf8) is possible. A rook sac for two pawns would let the king escape behind d pawn. Kg8, Bxd6??, Bxd6, Qxd6 gets Qxc2+, followed by the black queen mopping up the a and b pawns Kg8, Qf5 results in an exchange of queens by Qxc2+, Qxc2, Rxc2, Kxc2, dxe5 (exchanging bishop for a rook, winning eventually) If kf8, Qf5 still seems best (same results as Kg8)

"So now you're down a rook for no good reason, so, that fails. Although Carlsen missed these tactics ..." 10:30 Why would Carlsen have "missed the tactics" if those tactics lose the game?
