Abstract: I will demonstrate the application of a Students as Partners approach in the design and delivery of assessment and feedback in higher education drawing on the Equity, Agency, and Transparency (EAT) Framework (Evans, 2016, 2022). This research-informed framework, drawing on over 50,000 pieces of research and widespread application in practice, highlights the importance of students’ agentic engagement in assessment, and their development of self-regulatory skills in impacting student learning outcomes. Through exploration of EAT, questions are raised about what constitutes a deep approach to learning and what high level self-regulatory skills we should be promoting with our students. Key facilitators and barriers to promoting student and academic co-ownership and engagement in assessment are discussed. The value of the EAT tool kits (e.g. Guide to Using EAT) and specific templates to support implementation are outlined.
