This video is such a breath of fresh air. Seeing someone willingly defend the Cars franchise and actually understand that McQueen retired from racing on the track at the end of Cars 3 is unheard of - only because barely anyone takes it seriously, and likely didn’t even stay to see the snapshots in the credits. I’m very relieved that someone else recognizes the absurdity and damage this series does to the franchise as a whole. The whole experience of watching this show felt nothing like the films that came before them. Your sentiment about Pixar at the end of the video, and statements throughout the video were very good. Thank you.

Hey, GamingMagic13! If you're still here, have you found a date when you could release "How Ralph Breaks the Internet Wrecked Everything" (and other thrashing reviews of every bad Disney movie which there's a lot more than the majority would think in the pre-2020s) yet? Because as deserving as it is of having all those negative reviews (re: "Why Ralph Breaks the Internet is a Soulless Cash-Grab/Cinematic Disaster" by Rockotar & Schaffrillas Productions respectively), we can't wait to see how you would thrash it like you did with the last two Toy Story films (untl; Toy Story 5 comes out and hopefully saves the franchise. And this is coming from someone who watched your video on this inevitable yet unanticipating sequel to the movie that changed standards for this franchise from the best to the worst and laughed at the joke about if TS5 were about Woody (and possibly everyone else) being a serial murderer!) P. S. It's also great to know that what used to be auch an underrated franchise turned into Cars on the Road (where all the cars were about to become a car wreck)!
@corellioncrusaderproductio4679

Okay hang on. Do I have a misconception about what happened in the end of cars 3? McQueen didn't retire, remember that when Cruz won, McQueen's race was also staked on that. He even said himself in the movie that he would keep racing, but everyone seemed to think he retired? That's what it implicated, but my understanding by the end of the movie was exactly that: McQueen was going to retire, but Cruz winning gave him the second chance. McQueen racing under Rust-Eze still, then Cruz under Dinoco. Am I missing something?
@EN2YT

@@EN2YT Where did this come from without inferencing? Because the lines in the movie specifically stated that he wasn't done racing, and that the hudson hornet paint job was just something he wanted to do before returning to racing. Sterling tries to give McQueen orders now that he's retired, but then the leaderboard shows that since he started the race, he is also declared a winner, to which Sally comments that the deal was that if McQueen wins, HE decides when he's done racing. Then a minute or so later, McQueen is watching Cruz respond to the cameras and all, reflecting back to the first movie. Sally strolls up and tells asks him what its gonna be. He says (and I quote) "Oh, I'm gonna keep racing. But before that, I got something I want to do." This is when he gets docs paint job and races Cruz on Willie's Bute. That is the "something" he wanted to do, before RETURNING to racing. I feel like this has been misinterpreted by the fans. I think it'd be better if that was what happened.

It does. It really does. I didn't hate Cars 2. I was just confused by it. But I have to applaud it for trying something different and not being a memberberry movie. It honestly tried. Not even Incredibles 2 can say that it tried. That movie was so lazy I could have written that script in my sleep. And Cars 3 was great! It was such a great way to wrap up McQueens story. I'd imagine racers don't ever let go of that spirit and that drive so either they die doing it or they pass it along. And Cruz's story developed so naturally. It wasn't shoved down your throat or pushed to the limit. When she put on the number 95 I was fine with the giant plot hole that formed behind her. Cars is under-rated in general. I mean, do we really think any other sequel will take the chances Cars 2 took? No way Inside Out 2 will take a massive leap and pray. It's going to be paint by numbers and as predictable as Incredibles 2. They will never make another franchise like Cars ever again. That's a shame.

When you said "Cars as a franchise deserves more respect" I literally stood up from my couch and shouted "YES!! THANK YOU! FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT!" Cars is a franchise I hold very close to my heart and was a huge part of my childhood. I watched the movie so many times I can recite every line of dialogue by heart. The fact that it's become the punching bag of the Pixar movies has always made me very sad. Cars 1 taught me a very important lesson as a child and has stuck with me for my whole life. That life is about the journey and not the destination. When I have shitty days, and I'm stressing about financial issues or relationships or my job or whatever, I watch Cars. It's a very comforting movie and brings me so much joy and peace every time I watch it. It's a love letter to Nascar and motorsports fans, and has so many cute little easter eggs for people to find. I wanted to be a race car driver when I was a child and Cars and Herbie the love bug solidified my love of racing. I even like Cars 2. It's a mess and a film with a lot of lost potential, but at least the characters retain their personalities. And Cars 3 is a return to the humble beginnings of the first Cars movie with all the heart and soul that made that film so great. Another love letter to racing fans, a respectful memorial of Doc Hudson, my favorite character, and a beautiful ending to McQueen's journey as a racer. It was perfect for him to become a coach and help the next generation of racers to perfect their skills. Even as I become older and realize how much cars have destroyed our planet's environment and have made American infrastructure abhorrent and unsustainable, and I have essentially become "anti-car pilled" if you will, I still have a great respect for these movies and what they stand for. Racing is cool as fuck and the culture around it will always have a special place in my childhood dreams. Thank you for respecting these beautiful, yet sometimes flawed movies and giving these characters the love they deserve. ❤

Cars on the Road is something I haven't fully given my thoughts on yet publicly, but I was very apprehensive and worried about it prior to release, and sadly, my concerns were mostly made valid, though there are some redeeming qualities I found with it. Side note: I can forgive a lot of the "ignoring Cars 2" aspects of this show, as Cars 3 basically did the same, and a few other issues are worth bringing up, like how the Townies barely get to do anything, how hardly any old characters return on the journey, and how nearly every episode reuses plenty of old character models to the point where it's distracting, like the Circus ringleader just being a repainted Sterling.

I wish McQueen could have kept some of his arrogance because he earned it. You do earn it after a fashion. Smokey and Barn Stormer Nash earned that right to ask McQueen, "shouldn't you be in Flordia?" Ken Miles was a nice guy sure but he was absolutely fearless on the track and I wouldn't want to meet him alone in a back alley. TLDR it would make more sense for McQueen to be scared of doing things racecars don't do. Like go over giant bridges or being stuck in traffic or traveling long distance without a pit crew. Or hell, he could be anxious about doing a road trip all together. That's a long way without a crew or special racing fuel or fresh tires. He's basically a modified Corvette who is at home on the track, not on the road as a daily driver. Could have played that up a little.

I know this wasn’t a video you were especially excited about making, but I was personally excited to see it since I actually kinda liked cars on the road when it first came out and was interested to see why you didn’t like it as much, and while my enjoyment of it slowly deflated relatively soon after the show came out I was still overall positive weeks after it came out, and trust me when I say this, I am an AVID cars fan, the first cars movie was my childhood and I loved it to bits, as you can probably tell from my content, trust me, something that I’ve learned over the years is that anything released under the sun nowadays has a fandom for it, and I am a part of that fandom since cars means so much to me and I’d go as far as saying that it means to me what Toy Story meant to you, and it is sad that general public overall looks down on cars, so I was excited for this show and was somewhat satisfied, but my blind excitement for the fact that there is a new piece of cars media quickly wore off within a few months as I started to see more and more problems and missed potential with the show’s concepts, and even after some people speaking out about the show and you even making this video, I simply think it’s just mediocre, don’t get me wrong the overall positive reception for this show is very overwhelming but I don’t really take it seriously as it is no less than a 9 episode mini-series exclusive to Disney+ and not a main/major installment in the series, all your criticisms here are completely valid, although one thing I’d like to point out is that the paintjob at the start of the show is his cars 3 paintjob, no literally the official name of this look is called “Cars 3 Lightning McQueen” which is just lazy, and he even has his working headlights which should’ve been a dead giveaway that this doesn’t take place before cars 2, but I do get the criticism, for all, and I do mean all post-cars 3 media Lightning McQueen has been seen in his Cars 3 paintjob instead of his Fabulous look for the sake of brand recognition when it’s as clear as day that they take place after the events of Cars 3, which means that after the ending scene of Cars 3 he reverted to his red Cars 3 paintjob despite still being Cruz’s mentor, I hate it as much as the next guy but I view it as a contradiction made before Cars on the Road was even a thing, but I do agree with most statements in the video and it was really well done, you really outdid yourself Trevor, I like that the cars franchise is getting some time in the spotlight on your channel, the breakdown of Cars 3 was especially a highlight as for some reason a small selection people view cars 3 as inferior to cars 2, as of right now I do not hate cars on the road with a burning passion, definitely not as much as Toy Story 4 or Incredibles 2, or heck even Cars 2, but who knows maybe I’ll come back to this comment in a few years and laugh at how poorly that statement aged for me, I’m a person who usually has to really sit down and let some time pass before making definitive and final opinions about a certain piece of media, good luck with your future projects Trevor! Y'know... now looking at this series again, I think you're on to something when it comes to smaller content based on famous IPs. Something that states that... not even a mini series is safe from tarnishing the integrity the original movies had. Even if it's something that you didn't need to think about too much, it's something that still hurts once you really unpack the contents of what a series like Cars on the Road brings to the table. Regardless of it's importance and/or non-importance to the franchise's story and legacy. When I first saw Cars on the Road, I thought it was just okay like the Cars Toon shorts. A fun and simple series that didn't contribute much to the main Cars lore, but was decently solid enough entertainment from characters we know and love. Just a decent lil filler series about Mcqueen and Mater going on a road trip with wacky things happening on the way. For an analogy, it's like eating McDonalds for one time. It's a good enough meal that leaves you pretty satisfied, but not one that leaves a huge impact and makes you want to eat more. That's how I viewed the show when I first saw it. The mini-series equivalent to fast food. Sure it had problems, but ones that could easily just be ignored and somewhat excused as "this was just a filler show with nothing too major added to the lore (aside from logic)", and that's only contribution to the main lore was "new thing. go forward and see what our characters are up to now". And while again I did have some gripes with stuff like Ivy's character and some stuff being too filler-ey, I still thought the series overall was still fine at best. And while I still think it's an okay series with mildly funny moments, what you brought up does give me a whole new view on why it fails (like with your TS4 and Incredible 2 vids). Especially with the last episode that featured Cruz. Not just because her growth from 3 was undone, but also for what it means with the insanity from previous episodes and even the Cars franchise as a whole. It's gotten to a point where you can't even excuse On the Road's flaws as "just a mini-series thing that doesn't contribute much to the movies' lore". Because it DOES contribute something to the movies' canon. It's showing the state the characters are in now. And the state they're in... is a not a well-written one. It just goes to show that even a small project like this can fall into the same traps as many bad sequels in terms of the writing. Even if it's something that appears to just be filler, it can still do harm to a franchise's lore if not careful (this show certainly wasn't). And while it's nowhere near as bad as Cars 2 (which I consider a guilty pleasure btw), at the same time it's also kind of up there with all the weird decisions made with the writing and basic fundamentals of how this road trip idea was conceived. Also wait a minute... road trip. TS4 did it first and now Cars on the Road did it too... No... this has to be a coincidence..

So far, this is in the top 5 of your best videos. The top notch editing, fair and accurate critique, your defense of the Cars TRILOGY as a whole. All of it was top tier and now you are officially my favorite KZitem movie/media analyst. I feel Schaffrillas is a little to open-minded and at the same time doesn’t put nearly enough thought into some of his videos. He’s still great and all but you take so much time breaking down the plot, characters, themes, and everything else that makes a film special. And I got chills and sorrows when you declared Pixar is forever gone. Because in a way, it’s kinda true. Soul was the last truly great Pixar movie that came with the package of gorgeous animation, lovable characters, great themes, and a mostly consistent plot. Turning Red sucked and was absolutely obliterated by DreamWorks, solidifying its death while Marvel and Disney are struggling against the war for media. I loved Moana. I loved the original 3 Toy Story series. I loved Iron Man. And they’re all dying. Truly horrible but at least DreamWorks will come in top notch while DC and other brilliant companies slowly pick up steam.

My biggest problem with Cars on the Road is with Mater. He constantly says he wants to be Lightning’s equal, as well as being frustrated with McQueen being the attention seeker due to his racing nature. And I’m like, DUDE! You’re a Tow Truck, Lawyer, Secret Agent, Monster Truck Wrestler, Daredevil, Rockstar, Drift Racer, Stunt Plane, Detective, Fire Truck, Bulldozer Fighter, Astronaut, and Time Traveler! If anything, McQueen should be frustrated with you, while also trying to have the success and charm as you! Another thing that bugs me is that this doesn’t feel like a Cars Toon short, or even feel like a Cars series? As you said, the series was made by Steve Purcell, and anyone who’s been a fan of Telltale might know him as the creator of the Sam & Max series. Which is what this whole series is. It feels like a Sam & Max series, rather then a Cars series. Just replace the Cars theme with the Sam & Max theme, put in references to the comics and Telltale series and there you go. Btw, you do realize the Cars Toon shorts are canon. So ghost cars and circus cars, or even Bigfoot doesn’t feel out of place.

Concerning the segment about Cars 3 and McQueen’s final race, a lot of the stuff that happens like Cruz subbing in and McQueen being credited for the win actually happens in NASCAR. When drivers are sick, sometimes they start the race, run until the first caution, and then the team has a substitute come and finish the race. In NASCAR, the driver that starts the race earns points towards the drivers standings. An example of this was in the 2007 Busch Series race at the Milwaukee Mile where Denny Hamlin was late to the race, so Aric Almirola started it. Denny arrived a little after the start, and the sponsor of the car demanded that he get in the car and finish the race. So when Aric lost the lead, they brought him in to swap with Denny. Denny got back on track, got his laps back, and won the race. Denny went to victory lane, but the record books say the winner was Aric Almirola.

SCREEN. i felt robbed of racer mcqueen content and dont care if its full circle moment or whatever, to me doc's story was about not quitting when others force you to and they completely went against that in the third movie. for some reason he is too "old" and rusty now?? come on

I don’t think they actually ruined McQueen or Mater. The thing about McQueen’s journey is that his role as a crew chief and mentor for Cruz is implied to be more of a break rather than a full commitment. In one of the last scenes of Cars 3, McQueen actually says that he’s planning on going back to racing, just that he wants to do something first, that being serving as Cruz’s mentor figure. I think the takeaway from Cars 3 was more about how there’s more to racing than the actual racing itself, which I guess expands on the “there’s more to racing than winning” stuff from the first movie. Regarding Mater, I think the whole thing with his sister was pretty cool. Sibling rivalry feels like it’s own thing from actual feats you’ve accomplished, speaking from experience. The only problem I have with that whole thing is how quickly it was resolved. I’ll admit some parts of McQueen and Mater’s arcs made me raise some eyebrows when considering Cars 2, specifically regarding McQueen’s exhaustion with dealing with Mater and Mater’s perceived self worth, which seem to overlap with Cars 2. Part of me thinks Pixar is trying to ignore the existence of it due to its bad reception, which is kind of a bummer. Also Cruz didn’t have to be in this show at all. Honestly, I don’t know why she’s here. Ultimately I can let these problems slide because this is a series of shorts. If this was a full on Cars 4, I’d probably dislike this show more for what it’s done to the Cars canon, but even then I find these additions relatively small and uneventful. I mainly saw this as a fun chance to see McQueen and Mater do stuff again tl;dr I don’t think any character arcs were ruined with this show and even though there are some weird bits I can let them slide because they’re minor and this isn’t a full on theatrical movie

They could have went to all the great American road trip locations like the Grand Canyon, the vast and stunning desert of Arizona, the rolling plains of Texas, the bayou of Louisiana (massive bridge there that goes right over the swamp its so stunning) or go up north through Missouri and Kentucky and west Virginia were it's so beautiful you have to stop and take it all in. Nope. I had some hope when they went to the salt flats were they really do race some crazy ass vehicles. But that's the only place they went! What the fuck!? And then at the end BAM there's Cruz! I too thought this happened between Cars 1 and 2 but NOPE!!! I was really trying not to swear at that point because my daughter was pumped to see Cruz but she's 7 and didn't quite put it together that it made no sense at all. I'm so glad you made this. But could they have went to Buccees? The world may never know Edit edit: I liked the trucks song. I thought the trumpets were a great touch and in a vacuum the song works. I’m glad someone is on the same page as me. Because this series was a big missed opportunity. Cars is my favorite franchise coming from Disney as a whole. Regardless of what people say. I was hoping On The Road would be good, but when I watched it back in September, I was feeling disappointed at all the possibilities this show threw away. Aside from the visuals and soundtracks, this series could’ve been better. Then again, this is only season 1. So I don’t know if season 2 is gonna be better or worse. Maybe season 2 will actually have some racing because this season really did not have that (unless you count that salt flats episode). Hell, I’m not even sure if season 2 will be worked on for a while. As for Pixar itself, I’m not sure how I feel at the moment. I’m scared Inside Out 2 might be a disappointing sequel. Because with Pixar’s recent classics getting a sequel (except Finding Dory and Cars 3), they’ve been bitter. If they announce Cars 4, then they’ll have to fix what they’ve done in OTR. Speaking of “Cars 4,” the only thing I can see coming from that, is a Need For Speed or Forza Horizon concept; aka street racing. Aside from that, I would prefer a Cars prequel where it goes into Monty’s origins. But who knows, maybe it’ll be Lightyear all over again. Also, can we appreciate Trevor’s Mater impression (26:25)?

@minnesotavikingsfan9010 I think it was pretty serviceable as a kids movie, but it didn't even hold a candle to the first movie.

Honestly, people should just remove cars from the Pixar theory. It's the biggest outlier, most Pixar movies take place in a normal earth but with weird things happening beneath the surface, cars is just an entire car based world with nothing else.
