Case study 97 - Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG)
DIPG is a type of tumor that starts in the brain stem, the part of the brain just above the back of the neck and connected to the spine. Most patients are diagnosed before seven years of age. After diagnosis, median survival is usually nine months. Only 10% live for more than two years. When compared to pediatric glioblastoma, the prognosis for DIPG is the worst with less overall survival.
