I would like to see the next generation of PX keyboards utilizing both chips similar to the way the Kronos has multiple sound engines. Anyway, both sound excellent! Thanks for your videos Chuck!

You are playing the sax comparison in different octaves!! That is not a comparison. You need to play EXACTLY the same octave with exactly the same key velocity. Edit, I see you partially corrected that in your second video. Thanks. What would be really useful is a comparison of as many solo instrument sounds as possible, using exactly the same key velocity. You have to do this very carefully so as to make a fair comparison. It is the solo instruments like sax, flute, oboe, guitar etc that really exposes the quality or lack in a keyboard. Most electric pianos and pads are very easy to sample - it's the sustaining instruments and non layered things like accoustic/electric guitars that really demonstrate the quality of samples. Also with piano sounds, the most important thing is not just the initial attack but the long sustain especially in the bass. This exposes whether the sound is artificially looped after a few seconds. This makes an enormous difference to the quality.

This was already addressed in the followup video: kzitem.info/news/bejne/uGhqrJ-ZmHqBZ3Y They were actually "played" in the same octave, but their sample was actually higher in the CTX board than the Privia (using the exact same octave/keys).

Well, this is interesting. I have never been happy with the non-piano sounds in the 560. Now, I suppose I will have to get a CTX keyboard and stack it! OR, wait and see if both can be combined into one keyboard?

Reg mason232 z I have both the PX 560 (for gigging) & the CT-X 5000 ( for teaching Keyboard) & I am actually knocked out with the Acoustic pianos in both , so much so that I have started using the CT-X on smaller gigs where space is a problem . The EPs in the PX are good but they are to die for in the CT-X. In fact I also have a Korg PA 4X & the sounds in the CTX give it a good run for its money considering it's about a tenth of the price ! The only thing that I am really disappointed with is that it ( along with many other modern keyboards) only has that wretched 'to host' midi instead of the standard din midi sockets so sadly can't be triggered from my 88 note PX or trigger anything itself easily . I hope that this irritating industry standard is a short term 'flash in the pan' PUT BOTH SYSTEMS IN & CHARGE A BIT MORE , grrrr !!!!

@@graghamstaylor2341 Thanks for the info. I will receive the 5000 tomorrow, can't wait!. Agree on the MIDI concept. However, Kenton makes a USB/MIDI interface box. According to Chuck, and Kenton it will allow me to "trigger" the 5000 sounds from my PX.

@@graghamstaylor2341 Great! And again, I agree the 5 pin Midi should be standard. MIDI is coming out with an update (MIDI 2.0 and it will of course be compatible to the earlier system. Like Chuck once said, regarding no MIDI, "What were they thinking!"

I played a CT-X5000 at a local music store. The CTK6200 had more warmth in it's sounds. The CT-X5000 is 2.5X the price, but doesn't add the equivalent features for the money. Even adding a 24 bit TC Electronics M350 for superior reverbs and delays, the CTK6200 still comes in $100 less than the CT-X5000. The CT-X may have gained expression, but it gave up warmth and depth to it's sound. The sequencer on the CT-X was clumsy and cryptic in my opinion. The CT-X5000 also gives up the easy category search making it less likely to go into a live performance setting. Sadly disappointing is that neither keyboard has 5 pin MIDI jacks. I guess Casio doesn't trust me to know what I need and want. Thanks for sharing with us Chuck. I wouldn't give a second thought to to the Casio CT-X5000. It may sound a little better in some areas, but it lost a large portion of the Value of the $199.99 CTK6200. I've played professional gigs with the CTK6200 that paid twice what I paid for the keyboard. It did great with no issues at all. I confess that I put a bumper sticker on it to cover the large Casio label on the back.

@@throughtheturnstiles196 I found out later that maybe some of the AIR or Yamaha sound quite well too, but just that their built in speakers are not good enough -- we either need good amp and speakers, or a good headphone. The CT-S1 is the only one with built in speakers that sounds good for some models I have seen... even the Yamaha P125 doesn't sound as good as the CT-S1. I have a Yamaha EZ-300 and it doesn't sound so great, but if I use Sony's headphone MDR-7506, then it sounds so much better

I''m writing this comment three and a half years after you posted this review. Casio just came out with the CT-S1000V, also boasting the AiR chip. In addition to the touted vocal effects, it's specs show 800 sounds, etc. Is it basically a CT-X5000 with a vocal section added on?

Not trading in my 560 for the CTX any time soon. if i want better articulation for brass and woodwinds-do some programming. and when Casio updated the WK and CTK to these, they lost the drawbars-this seems to be their marketing strategy-leave out one important feature while upgrading something else? Why? And unless you go for the top of the line CTX5000, you will not get the sequencer and rhythm edit functions of even the older WK/CTK series. Why? And i own several Casios-I'm a fan but stilll don't agree with this design/marketing concept. again-drawbar functionality of the PX5s (a bit limited) but not on the newer PX560.

From watching reviews and their specs, I believe the CTX-3000 has all of the editing capabilities of the CTX-3000. The core differences are that the 5000 has 1) A modulation button 2) A Mic input 3) Direct buttons for sounds vs. just using the keypad or scroll wheel 4) Lighted patch keys so you know which favorite scheme you are using 5) More powerful speakers, but this also means you can't use batteries. All in all, the 5000 is more geared towards live performance and quicker access to features, but the underlying Filter and ADSR etc. controls are still there.
