This was my daughter's ring tone on my phone because it fit her so perfectly. She was shot and killed on Oct. 2, 2015. It only proved that the words of this song are true. She wasn't perfect, but I loved her unconditionally, and I still love her and miss her so much.

Cat's delivery of this song takes me right back to when it first came out. I was 18 at the time and new to the ways of love. After getting dumped out of a particularly steamy relationship I was acutely aware of how much it hurt. And that made Cat's caring farewell to the one who dumped him all the more poignant. Rather than go on about how much he was in pain, he wishes his ex well and cautions her to be aware of the dangers she will face in her search for happiness. I know this artist enough to understand his message contains no irony or cynicism. He is aware the person dumping him is making a mistake and cautions against other errors of judgment. In short, she will ultimately be worse of than he. That song taught me to view a relationship from the other person's point of view, to better understand their needs, strengths, and weaknesses. And always, base your conduct on its effect on them. By thinking of the other person first you risk emotional vulnerability, but it is your only chance of finding true love.

Incredible voice….amazing guitar….great songwriter….gorgeous looks. What a combination!!! And he said goodbye to worldwide fame and the craziness of the music industry and sought spiritual fulfillment instead. No one else of his stature has done that. We were all so shocked and SAD when he left us, because it felt like he left us and he was so musically gifted!! But he made the right decision for his life.

The song was written in 1970, a period during which Stevens had a relationship with Patti D'Arbanville, an American model, who was the source of inspiration for this song and for Lady D'Arbanville, contained in the singer's third album. Released as a single in late 1970, the song was Cat Stevens' first major chart hit, peaking at No. 11 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

This is real music that has reached many generations; and it's incredibly freeing, and I believe that we all can learn more about life; from this incredibly private man. He refused to conform to anyone else's rules. He's a true story teller, and I know that I'd love to hear Sawyer Fredricks play Cats music. This music will always have an affect on people of all ages. Peace and Love, what can one be, when one has the courage to be authentic and face life without any fear. Miss you; you've created a beautiful tapestry that speaks right to one's soul!

I’ll never forget leaving for college.. I had a 1200 mile drive.. And all my car loaded completely up with all my stuff.. I was somewhere in Texas and nothing was on the radio so I pushed play on my tape desk.. My parents made me a tape.. They said a few things and then played this song… I was so excited and so scared.. But I dried my tears and kept going.. I always wanted out of here.. I got out just to come back made my family here.. settled my roots.. Going to UCLA were some of the best sad years of my life.. I missed my friends and my family.. I missed it all.. the tiny town I grew up to hate.. and you can’t get by on a smile… Thanks for taking me back to those moments in my little Honda Civic… I still have the tape in my treasure box!

The religion he adopted (which he was not raised in, and yes that makes a difference) led him to say some really despicable things. I went for a long time thinking (and if I'm going to be honest, wanting to believe) that he had made some off-the-cuff sarcastic remark that someone took too seriously. I was wrong. This lovable, sensitive singer/songwriter whose work I admire so much *_literally_* called for a man to be put to death for something he wrote. He said openly and without a hint of irony or sarcasm that Salman Rushdie should be killed because that was the decision of a judge in his (then) newfound faith. This man effectively "sold his soul" along with his humanity because he had a bad scare while swimming and when somebody told him about Islam it gave him warm fuzzies, leading him to throw the rest of humanity under the bus for something that's not even real.

I can totally relate with you. For case and point, his music always gave peace to my spirit and even depths of my soul as a child and long into my adult years. It was until the BLAME lame stream media ( post 9/11 ) got their stigmatizing crew out ( with their continued agenda of polarizing peoples, thru religious cookie cutting generalizations ( of the totality of the Muslim people to be labeled all as terrorists ) that was only bringing division to greater levels. Sadly 9/11 was only the extension of the 1994 federal Murrah building explosion in OKC ( that was initially blamed on the Muslims, only to find out there were no Muslims associated with the bombing. IE Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols & surely they don't look Muslim & fact of matters is Timothy was not at odds with any families of those deceased children victims, but was rather at odds with warlords of desert storm, shield, etc because of his learning (( after returning from Iraq )) that not only the alleged enemy received gulf war syndrome via chemical biological agents, but also his comrades, because the standard army filtration masks and suits couldn't stop the cancers they received as a result & the dept of defense knew before hand the health damages It would cause to even our own. The health records of every American soldier in Iraq was in the Federal Murrah building & Timothy was patsied no differently than was Lee Harvey Oswald, that had a problem with the direction of his own countries govt), and Iraq was the extension of the bushes capitalization of reduced labor costs thru opec being done in the middle east vs higher cost here in America ( post the strategized Shaw of Iran American hostage crisis ) to only make a continued push for an all out war between Christians and Muslims in the middle east post the bushes 9/11 catalyst ( So, in essence the greed of reduced labor by the bushes ensued worse level of greed from 1979 to 9/11, 2001 & the outcome was " make a black list of any Muslim and lump all Muslims as evil ". As Ozzie Osbournes Black Sabbath song says they only start wars for fun and use our young for pawns in their schemes. Much truth in music and very well thought out. I am a Christian and believe Yusuf falls into the sons of God category, as Matthew 5 says, the peacemakers will be called the sons of God " Peacetrain ". Come On Peacetrain
