I pulled up Wild World. I have 3 daughters, all grown and on their own now, but it always brings a tear to my eye. Even though I have no son this song does the same to me. I was blessed to have them listen to me though as I offered advice. They didn't always follow it but were always thankful for my effort.

Whoever wrote this song had to live it.Nobody promised life would be easy. Life is a daily struggle which sometimes seems impossible. We fall in love, have kids, struggle to make a living...and grow old. Life is short and one day we wake up and wonder how it went by so fast.

I have just read some comments from other people, what else can I say? I agree with all of you. Some artists seem to tap into something universal ( not in a typically religious sense!!) which speak of profoundly significant things. I would love to send a universal thankyou and all the warmth and gratefulness I can muster, to all artists who endeavour and succeed, ( or not!) often in difficult times and difficult life circumstances, to create and then share their souls with us. Long may we learn from, be comforted by or provoked by them.

No matter how hard my dad tried to help my brother he had to go away to try to find himself. It absolutely broke my heart but I hope he has found peace in his life. My wife and I requested his version of "Morning has broken" to be played at our wedding. We did not want a religious service and it completely escaped us that Cat's big hit was an old Scottish hymn. We celebrated our 50th recently, and are now Christians who see the beauty of Christ where ever peace love and grace is to be found. In All religions!
@edwardmorris3453
10 ай бұрын
Okay wait a second. If you think the beauty of Christ is to be found in all religions, why are you Christian? What about elements of other religions that contradict the teachings/doctrines of Christianity? Do you acknowledge that such contradictions exist? How about the difference between Christianity and Hinduism where, in the former, the human soul lives on this earth just one time. Let's leave aside where that soul goes afterward. I think that is a HUGE difference. I am not religious, or rather I do not subscribe to any religion. All might be hooey. So I'm not asking this as a Christian. You and your wife are "now" Christians. Huh. Okay. But what is "beautiful" about Christ? To a Christian, wouldn't that be that he DIED FOR OUR SINS? That He is the son of God? I think it's a bit of a batty story, BUT, if you go with that story, then that has to be the only thing about Christ that matters. Or rather, the essential thing that differentiates Christianity from other religions.
@henrieecen2938

@@edwardmorris3453 Thanks Edward for the comment. Personally I abhor debating on this subject. We are all on a personal journey and it all ends one day. In our western society fewer and fewer, put off by Christian Institutionalism and it's tribalism, have given up asking the deep questions on life and its meaning and purpose. As for myself coming out of Christian religiousity and dogma, have never the less retained the spirituality of Christ our divinity, found in ALL of us. Christianity simply is acknowledging that while other religions with their dogmas touch on it but never embrace who Jesus was. Our humanity and God's divinity reconciled as one. The trouble with this world is ignorance of this possibility, not necessarily after our passing but IN this life in the way of TRUE (God's) love. May you continue to seek and find that inner peace (God in us) which the world with its myriad of distractions cannot ultimately satisfy the soul. ❤️

I've loved this song from the very first moment I heard it so many decades ago. Now as I near my sixties, and having lost my father two years ago, I again thank you for the lyrics that help me understand that all children must break from their parents at some stage, however traumatic that must be, and start their own lives. I love the way that you show both sides of the pain and the story, and that you do not judge. The song is a one of a kind.
@alansdorsetfossils4028

These words are so profound, and tell a lot about growing up, finding out who we are and trying to be that person we want to become. That inevitably means pulling away from our parents and what they want of us. With our parents it's I believe an attempt often to steer us clear of hurt and disappointment but these attributes sadly have to be learned too often the hard way. We don't know as children that if we stick our fingers into the beautiful flickering flames of a fire that they will cause burns and pain. If you one of the luck few and your vision matches that of your parents then there is no difficult transition to make. However for many of us this is not the case and for most of us thankfully our parents understand and accept in time that our way forward in life is not their vision but if it makes us happy then it's accepted in the end.
