I started using rattles this year myself but I never really thought about the color. Matching the color to the forage makes a lot of sense though.

I'm a huge believer in the versa rattles. Always have them on my dragging/drifting rigs, or when anchored in current. I love the flash of the chrome, but the finish comes off fairly fast. I'm had a lot of luck with the chartreuse, too.

I use green. Yellow, and chrome with orange/yellow peg floats. Chrome works well under a slip float or with casting spoons for salmon.

Great video Denny. I use chartreuse yellow 99% of the time. That includes my float and my beads. I just feel those work best for me.

My strategy is once the catfish is within striking range he’s gonna look/smell the live or cut bait. The chartreuse yellow and the rattle just drawls him in from a distance. I could and probably am wrong though

Haha I wondered how long it would take for someone to ask about that! I fished that pin out of a brush pile on one of our group floats.

If you're using live bait absolutely. If you're using cut bait or some other prepared bait then it depends. You should definitely be using a peg float to keep your bait off the bottom, in which case there will still be some movement and a rattle will still make some noise, it just won't be very aggressive.

Interesting topic. Never considered rattles for catfishing. I'd like to try the black rattles sometime since where im at in western ky, its nothing but muddy waters here lol. My catfishing rig consists of a 2-6 oz egg sinker sitting on a bead thats on a 8-18 inch leader with a circle hook on the end. Would the rattle go directly above the bait or between sinker and the leader?
@FloatFishAdventure
5 жыл бұрын
I've done both. Most often I use them on the leader directly above the bait but I will sometimes put it between the sinker and the leader, which I think makes the rattle shake a little more aggressively.

@@andrewrollins4898 Yes. A bead will keep the rattle functioning at it's best. Without a bead sometimes the knot can get itself sort of wedged into the opening on the bead and keep it from spinning or moving freely.

do they float or sink by chance
@FloatFishAdventure

The rattles are sealed so they do float but not enough to hold up bait. I actually end up getting them back pretty regularly when I get hung up and have to break off. I just wait a few seconds and watch and they usually pop up to the surface.

Rattle Noise: I will give them a Try, because ,clunking Works to attract catfish, BUT I don't believe color matters at all , when dealing with Catfish. They are literally a swiming Toung , with Lateral sensors , Tasting the water. Only an eel can out sense a Catfish; at one part per Trillion in Water. No, They simply say, something stinks," Like our current Administration", arrive on the scene, to confirm a glob of crap, only tantalizing to them.

Best if there's some current or you're using them under a float. Or pretty much any conditions at all if you're using live bait.
