My rifle has a PTR lower, a CTME BCG, and charging handle. My gunsmith said that my barrel is from an HKG3. My trigger group is a PTR 91 trigger group. It is a true Frankenstein. It came from the factory that way. It is a parts kit rifle. I lucked out, it is very accurate, and after about 4 years not even a light primer strike so far. Please remember just as the maker of this video stated "it is a parts kit rifle." A remedy for the factory trigger is having your smithy polish it up good. It'll take it down a few pounds. And it was never meant to be used as a match rifle or compared to them. It is a true battle rifle. It is what it is. Nothing better for a situation without rule of law. You can put countless, and I mean countless rounds through this thing before it will ever need cleaning.

@ Lough Sun: The G3 trigger specification developed by the Bundeswehr called for a heavy weigh-of-pull, sufficient to prevent a negligent discharge if a loaded rifle was dropped from a height of around 12 feet. They succeeded in that regard, but the engineers forgot the fighting men who would be using such an abysmal OEM trigger. Not to worry, though, since there were/are plenty of after-market mods to be done. German army G3 precision marksmen get an entirely different trigger pack, one much better suited to their needs, as well as a two-stage buffer. You're very right about the abuse and neglect these rifles can withstand. They are famous for being able to run reliably even after months of hard use and little or no maintenance. That reputation probably stems from the African bush wars of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.

I purchased one of these in late 2015 and I love it at this point of ownership I have put around 2,200 rounds through it of various brands varying between 762 NATO and 308. I can honestly count how many times I've had missed feeds on one hand. The only thing I had to change was the length of the stock. It was too short for me but that problem was easily solved with a $50 adapter that attaches till the end of the stock that makes it about an inch and a half almost 3 inches longer. I am noticing though over time that I've owned this rifle the plastic trigger housing is starting to become sort of brittle. I know they're cheap to replace I just haven't done so yet LOL. Other than that the firearm has been pretty much issue free for me.

I got mine in Tan from Classic for $500 bucks with 9 extra Cetme mags. Though since the frame is G3 it doesn't really like the Cetme mags that much. While the PTR's are nice, they aren't exactly a rifle you can lug around with you. For me with a decent 4x optic I can run around out in the desert with it and not worry about banging it up for the price. It's reliable and pretty accurate, and yeah it's true that sometimes these rifles can be assembled terribly by the monkeys at century but mine came out alright. It's also a blast to just go out and blaze away at stuff.

I picked up one with wood furniture a few months ago. I added an Aimpoint red dot and its spot on fast at 100 yds. It does what I want it to, it`s a cheap battle rifle. I`m changing out the hand guard as mine starts smoking a wee bit after 30ish rounds. Sadly I paid $900 for mine but it`s 2020 and you know, I might need it! I only have a few hundred rounds out so far but I really like this rifle. Cheap mags, comes with Picatinny rail welded on and there are lots of kits for changing up whatever you want.

These come as parts kits and can be full of gummed up caked crud. Take your mags and gun apart, wear heavy neoprene gloves and use hot soapy water + dish detergent + nylon brushes (old toothbrush + bottle types) and clean out every crevice. Blow dry with compressed air and lightly lube then try again. These guns also often need to settle in with a good 500 rd break in, especially since the barrels are G3 and not true CETME barrels. Barrels do not come in with the kits anymore, they are currently made by PTR and are 4150 steel and nitrided, good for about 8K rds. Use a dry lube spray inside the mags

Hey, I’ve been spilt on my decision to pick this up for a while now. I’ve been trying to decide between this and an Ak of some type, heard decent things about psa but not 100% sure what I want yet. Really liking the idea of a 7.62. I know the usual aks a 7.62x39 and c308s a 308 or 7.62x51 obviously, I know the capability’s and differences of the rounds and what they’re useful for at different ranges and what not. It’s my first legitimate caliber rifle I will own other than a .22 or a hand gun. I completed basic and AIT a few months ago so I’ve spent some time with an m16 and 5.56. I shot some ars before the army and I Don’t know why but I never did like the rifle all that much. The g3/hk91 type rifles seem to be decently reliable but I’m trying to keep my price under or around $600. The psak, psar10, and c308 are what I’m looking at. Insite from anyone with knowledge would be helpful, and also this review was of great help, good video!
@OreGear
6 жыл бұрын
To be honest with you, it's kind of comparing apples and oranges. The 308 is a full size battle rifle. This means (among other things) that it will be heavier, the ammo will be heavier, it'll recoil harder, but you'll have a further effective range and better obstacle defeating ability. The AK will be lighter and softer recoiling and also significantly cheaper to shoot and train with. AKs can still be accurate out to 500 yards depending on the gun and still have decent obstacle defeating ability. With all that said, I'd start with an AK and get some time and training with that before looking into also getting a battle rifle. The only exception might be if you live in a place where you have 1000 yard line of sight in every direction. In that situation, the additional range of the 308 might be beneficial.

It would have been nice if there was some kind of spacing system to get a better cheek weld. Lastly at an avarage of 50 cents a round it's super expensive to feed. Every mag = $10.00 😖. The barrel is 4140 “affordable” quality. Not treated other than being parked, and not chf. If it were, it would be a much pricier gun.

You can’t get one for less than 1400.00 Ptr in California! I just bought one! I use to live in South Carolina and they were 800.00 for cetme. Years ago I bought a Springfield it had a aluminum reciever at 550.0 and it was junk! DO NOT BUY ALUMINUM!

But then those get put together by guys at Century. Not guys at PTR. Add that with a bunch of new old stock CETME parts and there’s a lot more failures.

That’s incorrect. As I said, everyone I personally know that’s owned one has had parts breakages and had to send them in. Watch the Late Boyscouts video. You can see his firing pin broke, had a slam fire and got about 4” groups.
