Welcome back to the Ceres Control Room where we talk about the more technical aspects of our greenhouses. In this episode, we talk about insulated intake vents and how they allow our greenhouses to stay properly insulated during the colder months, while also allowing added ventilation during the warmer months.

Because this greenhouse is using a fogging system to create cooling through evaporative cooling, we don't have a wet wall but we still use our insulated intake vent in these green houses and that's because we're in Omaha and it has cold Winters wind snow and cold and traditional intake louvers even ours that we use here are just aluminum and they don't do much for insulation it actually transfers heat or cool and so we only do that for our small vents but for our big vent we do our insulated intake vent. Now these are our insulated metal panels it's the same as the walls it's actually part of the wall you install the whole panel to begin with and then you cut these out and then we supply all of this u channel to rebuild it and hinges into this operable vent so when this closes whether that's during the day in the summer but mostly in the winter you have a full insulated wall that's the big deal because we're trying to eliminate any cold spots that we can for year round growing and here again we show you the thrip screen for the insulated intake vent and you need this volume because the mesh is so fine that this amount of cubic feet of screen gets us back to neutral with the fans pulling air and here is the four intake louvers with their own box again with rip screen so it keeps out all insects as small as and including thrips
