I only discovered Maestro Asahina a couple of years ago. I wish I had known of him while he was still alive. His name belongs on the same list as Furtwangler, Karajan, Solti, Klemperer, Bohm & Szell. His command of the orchestra was masterful, especially when performing Bruckner. He remained strong on the podium until the very end.

Same here, I have never heard of him, but I like the performance so far, a few minutes in. He holds the fermata a bit longer than most(reminds me of Solti in this respect) and I like how he doesn't take it too fast and gets the phrasing right, something that is reminiscent of Erich Leinsdorf and his great performance with the Boston Symphony, but this has a bit more of a brazen/brass sound, i.e. fierce energy and fire to it, not as much of a rounded tone, but a bit of an edge; it's very nice.
Oh! his long is so thoughtful and lovely length. I would feel the composition of 5th symphony is so beautiful and regularity touch veryvery much. Maestro Asahina conducted the beauty of great masterpiece in so natural style through. Occasionally I would love to listen to yang Karajan's 5th.there may be some differences between West and East. what is "rhythm"? (soon be 91yrs.Japanese)
