The Gershwin set was recorded in 1942, and like most forties classical sets it has no commercial value. Mahler 2 was a 12-disc set (Ormandy and the Minneapolis Symphony from 1935) and that might at least be worth picking up if you found it. But then you have to inspect all the discs, and if any are broken there goes any value.

I think I’d have passed on all those too. My latest Charity shop adventure returned a few, nothing worth much (on Discogs) but the lot cost me only £8: Hummel, Septet in D Minor/Quintet in E Flat (SOL290); Handel, Music for the Royal Fireworks, BHM 1920350; Mozart K488/K459, 2530716; Malcolm Binns, The Broadwood Heritage (various harpsichord), DSLO540 (bought more for the inside notes about the harpsichord); Brahms Violin Concerto, Oistrakh and Klemperer, EMI1765; Mozart K450/K453, CBS61348; Bruckner, Symphony No2, SAL3785 and finally Beethoven Symphony No9, Georg Solti, 6BB121.

I saw that Oistrakh in a local charity shop myself a month or two ago. Just the mono but in lovely condition so well worth 50p. Otherwise it was the usual dross, very similar to what you were flicking through in your video. The gems are few and far between...

I found your comments on 78s interesting, as I knew nothing about them. I know you're not a collector of jazz, but today in Oxfam I picked up Willie 'The Lion' Smith's 'Memorial' album for 4 euro, in great condition. I've since discovered sellers on Amazon looking for around £55 for it!

the Spiinners were a folk traditional singing group, not worth buying for me. My wife knew Shakin Stevens (Michael Barrett) when he was an unknown singer in pubs, she also would sometimes drink in the same pub as George Best but that was another story (-;
