Nothing to do with communities etc. Kevin writes from the heart. This clearly was something written from his real life. Whether he admits it or not is a whole different thing. Kevs best work is written from deep experiences. This is one of my all time favourite films. ALWAYS MAKES ME WEEP LIKE A B WITH A SKINNED KNEE AND SH**.

Chasing amy isn't ment to do anything but humanize the lgb community, and there also 90s alt comic book people so an even more niche group. Up to this point lgb characters were a joke and a mean one at that. And lets be honest i think it would be hard to get a studio movie this authentic today let alone Hollywood back then. So look at Chasing amy as a first step to getting better lgb films not rip it apart for not being lgb citizen kain.

We all have a movie that is "our movie". I think it's great that a movie -- and the people who made it, can see the unintended effects it had on people's lives, especially outside of the thirty mile zone. What's a movie that's impacted you in a illogical or irrational way that has an outsized effect on shaping your worldview?

@@Moonraker0022 aliens is my favorite movie of all time. Love silence of the lambs it made me get into profiling. But the movie that is mine so to speak is ninja turtles i still get jokes different all these years later. Originaly i didn't get aprils joke about splinter being the cleanest one because i was like of course he's another adult wasn't till years later i realized it was a dirty rat joke. Also didnt get kenos sarcasm as a child.

Chasing Amy feels so dated and clearly from a place of not understanding LGBTQIA+ issues, yet 20 years ago it was making the attempt. I don’t really understand how Sav latched onto this movie when thanks to the internet there is a plethora of more relevant content… but hey whatever floats your boat,

I disagree. I remember transphobia being pretty normalized in 2008, and even if the Internet had "more relevant content," that doesn't mean it was accessible to a closeted kid who was just trying to figure things out. A lot of lgbtqia+ folks latch onto whatever they see first because the better stuff just isn't always accessible. I'm honestly not sure what you mean by "more relevant content."
