In this episode, I wanted to check out some local quick eat spots in Chicago. I invited a special guest (my old friend Tram) to share the experience with me. We visited the following places:
Oromo Cafe - 4703 N Lincoln Ave. Chicago, IL 60625:
A unique and cultural coffee shop in the Lincoln Square area to pick up your usual coffee drinks or try some of their specialty coffee drinks. They have a variety of plant based milks to choose from and a friendly spot for anyone that is gluten free as well.

ATX Bodega - 2301 W Foster Ave. Chicago, IL 60625:
An Austin, TX inspired BBQ joint that offers Tex-Mex menu options from tacos to traditional texas BBQ. Their brisket is cooked for 12 hours and the love and care they put into their food shines at this place. We tried the brisket and it was juicy and flavorful just on its own. The birria tacos are quite filling! The tortillas are smeared with the rendered animal fat and cooked to a crisp on the flat top. The tacos are dunked in this rich consomme. We also tried the Banh Mi style tacos, which bursted with so much flavor! These were incredibly delicious...I'm salivating thinking about these.

Doms Kitchen & Market - 2730 N Halsted, Chicago, IL 60614:
This is a newer upscale local grocery store that recently opened up this summer of 2021. They have several food stations where you can sit and have coffee or eat a meal all while doing some grocery shopping. All of their pastries/desserts are sourced from local Chicago bakeries. We were not allowed to film inside so not much to show here! Sorry!
Phodega - 1547 N Ashland Ave. Chicago, IL 60622:
A small, Asian noodle/food shop that also marries as an asian style bodega where you can pick up snacks, ramen or other random household items. The beef Pho was the star and super comforting. The broth was rich in flavor and balance of spices. We tried other items like the Pho fries...fries topped with a beef pho gravy, thinly sliced beef, and fresh onions, jalapenos and cilantro. A clever adaptation of the Canadian poutine fries. The Hainan chicken and rice dish is a popular dish you would find in Singapore as well as Thailand (known as "kow mun gai"). The rice is cooked in chicken fat and broth and topped with poached chicken. The fresh cilantro and sauces elevate the flavors of the dish and served with a side of hot chicken broth.

All of these places I would definitely go back to and recommend trying if you are looking for new local spots to try in Chicago. Have you tried any of these places? Let me know your thoughts in the comments! Bon Appetit!
