Chet Atkins was my A&R man when I was 15years old. I am now 72 & that. rendition of Sleep Walk thrilled my heart..When he signed me with RCA he changed my name from Nancy Castleberry to Nan Castle.I am still singing today. thanks

What beauty! This tune takes me back to a time when I was so shy I could't ask a girl to dance. I was a late bloomer to say the least. Just watch Leo's deft touch with the slide. He only uses what he wants from the slide an no more. And Mr. Atkins completely compliments Leo with the chords. Then, they switch. What harmony! Thanks a bunch.

Sam Armstrong I agree for the most part. Americans have always been good at throwing convention to the wind and just doing their own thing. I honestly think the UK has better musicians though. You wouldn't know it by listening to Radio 1 or anything though. I remember living over in England and the shit on the radio was nothing but poppy dance crap. Every now and then you'd hear Jimi Hendrix or Led Zeppelin, otherwise it was Kylie Minogue (sp?) or some shit.
@Andybruff
10 жыл бұрын
Eric Pederson it's unfortunate that the radio is so exclusive. I personally know some of the best musicians i've ever heard. top quality, high talent, humble, and hard working. guitarists, drummers, bassists, singers, etc... I agree with you tho. America's music scenes are just a bit off. too much attention given to what's gonna make money, what's gonna sell products, etc.
@HunterMann

It seems like far too many musicians these days have a hang up about playing cover tunes. They get obsessed with being totally original, though their music is often sound-alike of so many other artists. I hope they can let go of their egos and embrace the beauty of covering classic like this. (just no Stairway To Heaven though, thanks!).

We can thank Larry Carlton, one of the very very best of the L.A. studio set for breathing fresh life into this Santo & Johnny Farina absolute classic!!! In 1982, Larry Carlton did an album called, guess what?? ""SLEEPWALK"" !!! It featured Sleepwalk, played on guitar without steel guitar/lap or pedal, only Larry, and his beautiful es-335 Gibson guitar, and a touch of Fender Strat. If you havn't yet heard Larry's album, by all means DO check it out!!!! Chet invited Larry to play on his 1983 album titled ""STAY TUNED""!!! Another fantastic album!!! In fact, in the late 1980's Chet, Larry, and Leo toured together, and I was fortunate enough to be able to see one show in N.Y.C. it was phenomenal ~!~

Marley was amazing - I saw him in concert and was blown out of my seat with no weed in my bloodstream. Absolute truth. Easy Skanking - the man knew what he was doing. Also, I have loved Kottke and Atkins since I first heard them. To see them play together - with little or no rehearsal as is obvious from the fact they need to 'tune' - this clip is as raw as creation of music can be. It's beautiful.

This is truly amazing. For Leo Kottke, who once said on one his albums, "I'd like to demonstrate one of my favorite techniques now, which is to take a lovely, simple melody and drive it into the ground" - this is something of a departure. This is taking a lovely, simple melody and making it a lovely, simple melody. Hat's off to both legendary guitarists. They tore it up on this, without tearing it apart.
