Just my thoughts but I would use motor oil on the pushrod tips and save the assembly lube for just the lifters. I have seen assembly lube plug up a push rod so oil wouldnt flow through and also assembly lube sometimes can clog up you oil pump pickup screen. Again just my experiances. Peace

Should the pushrods be able to twist by hand after valve lashing and giving it the 1/2 or 3/4 turn?

So you basically rotate the motor 90 degrees 8 times from TDC on number 1, than 1/2 a turn on all the valves?

people install the dots differently, the way i did it it was dod to dot and #1 cylinder was at TDC but not in the compression stroke, so when i put the dot at the top that made #1 cylinder at TDC on the compression stroke and is ready to drop in the distributor. this is how i learned how to do it
