This is a video highlight archive of our neighborhood feral cat (Patches) and kitten (Shadow) who have visited our porch for food and warmth over the winter months. Patches has been around for about 3 years and Shadow is about 7 months old. They are extremely evasive and will not approach humans, but they need help in the winter to survive the recent foot of snow and current cold snap. Temps are in the single digits in the daytime and below zero at night.
To capture the kitties on camera, we set up a live shot for 24 hours and edit it down for viewing only the continuous action shots. We'll keep following the cats for as long as the brutal weather continues. The live shots will also be available in this playlist...but edited, reposted and the long boring version deleted the next day. Lots of interesting interaction between the cats and their surroundings.
We placed a few items out for the cats to help them survive the cold.
1. a chicken coop water heater (the round metal disk) that keeps the milk from freezing and warms their feet a little. You can see them snuggle up on it when eating.
2. The cat house, found on Amazon and highly recommended. Has a PVC frame and think double nylon sides and a zippered roof.
3. I had no other heaters so I used a chicken coop chick brooder heater turned upside down and covered in two old bath towels placed on the floor. They will try it out in the next video. In this video, there is no heat in the cat house, but it's installed now.
