One is a cement down and this other cap is bent to hang over. Looks alot better
@bogey19018
Remember caps were never a "thing" 60 years ago, and the chimneys are just fine as long as the wash ((crown) is good, and the right mortar is used for laying the brick.

If I remember correctly, in a previous video you stated that you have those custom made locally. Do you know of any manufacturers of these that ship them? We live in a very dry climate but we do see snow in the winter and some rain now and then. Our chimney has open flues and it has never sat right with me
@spinb
Could you recommend a custom cap maker? I think I'm same general area as you -- I'm just south of Nashua in Mass. I'd like to use someone local rather than just order online.

I watched many of your videos and like your methods. I would like to try them on my chimney using the materials you use. I am not located in the NE of the country. I am in N Central TN near the KY border, so still a temperate climate. Would the products you use, i.e. lead flashing, Grace ice and water shield etc be durable enough this far south. I have heard you make comments about lead flashing not being used in the south and comments from other viewers regarding the durability of Grace products with standing 200 degree heat. I would think the products would but I am not a professional but a DIYer and thought I should ask first. I plan to use your 4 part series on how to lead flash a chimney. I will also have to build and flash a cricket to replace the metal cricket I currently have. I would certainly appreciate any advice you could lend me. I like your videos and appreciate all the details you include. They are not too long, If anything, add more detail.
