Amanda, your thoughts please? I went low carb 6 years ago. For various (good) reasons I incorporated macadamia nutbutter. I've slowly increased it over the last two years to say 70% plus of all my calories. It digest like a dream. But suddenly I experience digestion issues with most other foods. Fruits/veg=bloating. Protein 'sits' on my stomach a long time. The nutbutter no issue - digest like water. I guess it's quite obvious, right? I have almost conditioned my digestion into a certain food, and now my gut flora is trained that way, and now I battle with other foods. I don't think the macadamia fats block my pancreas enzymes. I just think my gut is over trained in plant fats, and under trained in other varieties. You agree? Thank you.

@ConfluenceNutrition

Yes, it's possible. Once your gall bladder has been removed, it continuously drips bile into your gut instead of being released in a pulse when you eat a fatty meal. The new routine of this can affect the gut microbiome. But there also may be other possible causes. It's important to consider the WHOLE picture, and to start with the general approaches (diet, probiotic reset, basic digestive supports) before working on deeper, more intense interventions....if you need support with this kind of thing, I'm about to open doors for my program that teaches you how to work this way with your body. @ConfluenceNutrition

Well, I might suggest exploring a low FODMAP diet to avoid the foods that make you most gassy, but in terms of enzymes, beans often require alpha-galactosidase to help with digestion. The leafy greens could be due to any number of problems, but a general enzyme with amylase, protease, and lipase is the place to start.

Or is there no connection between the Lipase blood levels (which indicate the status of pancreas) and digestive enzymes supplements?
@ConfluenceNutrition

Hi Aira, this is a good question. Lipase levels fluctuate normally daily, and can also rise due to problems with the pancreas and gallbladder. I don't expect that oral digestive lipase enzyme would raise blood levels of lipase, but please check with your doctor to be sure.

Hi Tess, without the gallbladder, the body sometimes needs support with Ox bile (bile replacement) or TUDCA, especially with high fat foods/meals. So that would be first suggested test/trial. The LypoGold enzyme from Enzymedica is designed to support fat digestion as well, so that could be another possibility. But there may be issues beyond poor fat digestion that need addressing. Hi Zach, for some people, this is a common reaction. WHen you see a negative reaction, this is a clear sign that your body doesn't want this option right now. The dose may be too high, or the formula may be irritating. You could try a product with less enzyme, or a different type of enzyme altogether, maybe a more vegetarian based formula that uses papain and bromelain as the main enzymes. This may also be a sign that you have some irritation of your stomach/gut lining, and gut lining soothers, like aloe juice, DGL, or slippery elm may need to be called upon to soothe. This is just one kind of support I offer my clients inside my Calm Digestion Method program. When you're ready for some ongoing, high level support using supplements to support your digestion, I'd love to connect on a call to learn more about you, and help you assess whether the program can help you. Hi Becki, an enzyme with a relatively high amount of protease will be best for supporting protein digestion. You will have to experiment with the different types: vegetarian sourced (like papain and bromelain), or straight protease, which is sourced usually from pigs. Some people react to the plant-based enzymes. Two brands I trust are Enzymedica Digest Gold, or Integrative Therapeutics Similase. You can find both of them on Amazon, I believe. 3 жыл бұрын
Hi 10 O'Swords, this sounds like a frustrating situation...it does seem like those single-point enzymes may not be that useful, since you're theoretically not eating the foods they target. And papaya enzymes don't work for everyone either. There is a new enzyme out called FODMATE that helps with digestion of FODMAPS, or a broad spectrum enzyme like Enzymedica's DigestGOLD might be a good one to try. But the real answer to your question is hiding inside of this: what foods are you really reacting to? Are you diligently doing the low FODMAP diet? If so, and it's not helping, this indicates FODMAPS aren't the trigger. Can you tell me anything at all about what foods you notice REALLY trigger things up for you?
@10-OSwords
3 жыл бұрын
@@ConfluenceNutrition Hi thanks for replying. I don't notice any particular triggers. I'd say I stick about 95% to the diet. The only things I let go are onion & garlic powder because they're in a lot of foods but I don't eat large servings of anything I usually eat small servings of multiple things & if the label just says onion or garlic I won't eat that. If I eat something with milk contents it's usually from cheese which is allowed on the diet & I take lactaid as well. So I don't ever have any particular triggers but always have the be same symptoms.
@ConfluenceNutrition
3 жыл бұрын
@@10-OSwords certain KINDS of cheese are allowed on the diet...harder cheeses that have less lactose, like parmesan. There can be other reasons for reacting to dairy than lactose intolerance. I might suggest removing dairy temporarily to see if that helps. I, of course, don't have your full picture, but perhaps a different mechanism is at work with your chronic diarrhea than FODMAPs. Getting clear on what this is is your ticket out. I might suggest exploring whether histamine foods are a trigger next.

Hi Betty, it's fine to use them at the same time...however, you might not be able to get your ideal amount right with the combined product. In other words, maybe your gut wants twice the amount of HCL than the ox bile, but you can't get more without also taking more ox bile. Hi Fred, thanks for your question. Enzymes are unlikely to stop bloating alone, but they can help make things easier for your gut. Hi Rob, they might, if the reflux is being triggered by difficulty digesting say, fats, for example. IF the reflux isn't being triggered by that aspect, then no. The way to figure it out is to do a trial. Give yourself a week or two on an enzyme and keep track of how your reflux changes. If no changes, then enzymes don't help. @@skeditor5 It's unlikely that one single thing will be the magic pill to "fix" the bloating and constipation. If there's really been no improvement at all, now you know that bile isn't related, and you have to create a new hypothesis and experiement to test it. For example, magnesium citrate is often helpful for constipation, so you could try using daily for a while and see if that helps. Food is likely involved, and how is your stress level? All of these pieces may need attention for you to find your solution...

That would be a reasonable experiment to see if you can get improvement with that addition. If not, you may need to cut down on or remove those foods. Thanks for watching!

The problem with alot of digestive enzymes such as enzymedica which is garbage in my opinion is they derive the enzymes from a mold source such as aspergillus.. No thanks.. Plus from my extensive research is that enzymes need minerals to activate them.. And you can take all the enzymes you want but if you don't have sufficient bile production than enzymes will only do so much..

Hey T, Theories and research are valuable, but for every supplement or intervention, it's a maybe yes and maybe no...I like to use the body's response to guide me. If someone responds well, then yes, we continue. If not, then we need to focus on something else at that time. I've seen enzymes really help some people, and others not at all. BUt of course, you are entitled to avoid them if you don't think they are useful :) Thanks for watching, and thanks for your comment!

Is there a powder form for ox bile?

I'm not aware of a company that packages ox bile this way, but there may be. You can always simply open capsules if you prefer to consume your supplements this way. Thanks for watching!

What happens when you are allergic to pork and pineapple? but you need pancreatic enzymes…
@ConfluenceNutrition
2 жыл бұрын
This is a tricky situation, because you're right, most non-vegetarian types are pork based, and the vegetarian ones all have pineapple...I think I would double down on encouraging my natural secretion of enzymes by supporting stomach acid, if tolerated, and also focus on lots of healthy fruits and vegetables, which also contain enzymes. Thanks for watching, and great question!

Yes, it's a common high histamine reaction that many people have.
