I shall go with cotton and throw away ambitions to use satin for my 1st corset. Thank you hehe

Wait cotton? So i dont need to buy nothing I can just take my old 100% cotton shirts and cut out patterns from that material?
@StephanieRubletz

As long as they are a woven and not a knit you can. Jersey t-shirts will have too much stretch. But any non stretch woven will be fine. Happy sewing♥️

@@StephanieRubletz haha chat gpt said they wouldn’t work for a tight lacing.. it recommended cotton coutil, would it really make a difference? If yes I will go for the coutil then
@StephanieRubletz
Жыл бұрын
Oh for sure if you are doing tight lacing you need something strong like a twill. I assumed since you said it was your first corset that you will not use nice fabric for, that you were just doing a mock-up. Sorry I misunderstood🙂

@@darknessfierce4209Perhaps you should comprehend what you're reading then because I'm literally just questioning where the 'links' she states she will link to are, with regards to all the amazing historical sewers she was alluding to - as they are NOT below / nor are they in the description box where she says she will put them 'below' What's mean is... coming in off your high horse and inferring unrelated meaning of words of people's direct statements where none exist...eg my literal words.

I agree with Cindy, because this subject is as foreign as Russian holiday baking in the 1670's. I'm off to look up "waist training."

i'm aiming to use a no stretch mesh, but preferably a mesh that I can trust to not rip on the account but it has no stretch. What is known to be the most widely used mesh?
@StephanieRubletz
10 ай бұрын
hmmm, that's a good question. And i'm not totally sure how to answer without knowing the overall vision. Power mesh definitely has stretch. Other than that I have used sheer fabrics that were quite delicate but I found that the trick to durrability was to really reinforce the bone casings and not rely on the sheer to hold the bones. I'm not sure what gage of mesh you are wanting aesthetically, but if you find something that you like but are worried about strength, you could always layer a sheer fabric under it and then use something more sturdy for the bone casings. BUT, if your concept is to use mesh and then overlay lace or appliques or something, then you will be surprised how much strength and protection those will add to the completed garment.

Is cotton the stiff you can get at a store easy and slightly less opaque
@StephanieRubletz

Cotton is generally pretty opaque. When you go to the fabric store it should say on the tag at the edge of the bolt what the fabric content is.

Can I use a stretch lyrca as the corset under a dress
@StephanieRubletz
2 жыл бұрын
I've never tried it but I don't see why not. I think you would still want the bone casings to be rigid to avoid the bones rubbing through the fabric. You might want to experiment though. If I were going to use stretch I would only put it in the back panels for a bit of extra comfort. But hey, experimentation is one of the funnest parts of sewing. Give it a try!
