Gunmen attacked an Orthodox church, synagogues and a police post in two Russian cities in its North Caucasus region of Dagestan on June 23. The incident killed at least 15 police and National Guard officers, several civilians and an Orthodox priestwho worked in Derbent. At least 12 people were injured in the attacks, which took place in the cities of Derbent and Makhachkal. Melikov said the "active phase" of operations in the two cities had ended and that "six bandits have been liquidated." The twin attacks came three months after 145 people were killed in an attack claimed by the Islamic State on a concert hall near Moscow. In April, Russia's FSB security service had arrested four people in Dagestan on suspicion of plotting the deadly attack on Moscow's Crocus City Hall. Watch the video to find out more.
