Just starting my third Afghan by this pattern. Its for my stepson who is 6'8" tall. That means I am going to have to make 130 squares, Ohhh my what have I done to myself? But this is the design he wanted. Wish me luck. 😉

Oooh you are ambitious! Best of luck, it will be beautiful no doubt.💕 One thing, I pinned a comment another viewer left about how she increased the number on the corners at the end to help square it off better. Please keep a mental note of it in case you find it’s working too tightly for you too. 👍🏻💕

I'm not sure I understand where to find the pinned comment about increasing the corners to make them more square? What do you mean? Were they adding stitches to the corners, like maybe doing a cluster of three instead of two? @@PlayHookywithMe

Thank you! My husband just asked me to make a blanket for his grandmother. Some of his fondest childhood memories was to visit her and his grandfather. There was a special kitchen drawer that held a bowl of M&Ms that everyone loved. It got to where the family would buy them M&M themed items for Christmas. His grandfather passed away a number of years ago, and my hubby asked me to make this blanket to wrap her in loving memories of those times with an M&M theme. I knew how to make a circle in a square in both traditional and Tunisian crochet styles, but this video cinched my decision on which way to design it. I love the additional helpful tips that you add to your tutorials that give such a beautiful result, especially for the joins which are difficult for new (or haven't done it in awhile) crocheters. Thanks for all that you do!

I would love to see a tutorial on the opposite - making a square to circle bowl shape. I crocheted liners for one of those 3-tier metal hanging baskets for holding fruit etc in your kitchen. I should say it’s not a flare square to circle - the bottom is square, but once you transition to a circle, it needs to angle upward a little - but not too much! Instructions I found for making a bowl all seem to have sides that go straight up once you get to a certain diameter. I figured it out, but it was A LOT of trial and error. At first I tried to keep notes, but I tried so many different ways, I lost track of what I did. One general idea is that a shell pattern gives more leeway in terms of the upward angle than straight stitches. Another thing I found is that it didn’t need to angle up as much as I thought it would. I think if I tried to do it again, though, it would be a lot of trial and error again.

@PlayHookywithMe

Hi 👋🏻 you want to continue the increase sequence like we were doing in the video so it would look something like this. R1 12 R2 inc in each stitch R3 1sc, inc repeat R4 2 sc inc repeat R5 3 sc inc repeat R6 4 sc inc repeat R7 5 sc inc repeat R8 6 sc inc repeat Do you see the sequence? You’ll just keep doing that until you reach the size circle you want to make. Then whatever that final round’s stitch count is , divide it by 4 to find your corners . Then subtract that number by 2 . Use that number to start each corner. You need two subtract by 2 because I used to stitches to form the corners. ❤️ Example. Circle stitch count is 36 when I’m all done. To square it off : 36 divided by 4 is 9 9-2 is 7

About how many skeins of yarn would you recommend to make a throw blanket or about 120 squares? I LOVE that you taught how to close up the middle without using a magic circle and lining the rounds up so evenly. Hi Jane - each one of my squares measures 5x5 inches and weighs 8 grams with worsted (weight 4 ) yarn and a 4mm hook. So based on that , you’d need approx 960 grams / 34 oz of yarn. Not sure how much yarn comes in the skeins you’ll be using but usually it’s about 100g. These numbers will vary depending on the yarn /hook size you’re using. Hope this helps ❤️

Thank you so much! It really depends on the design of the squares . I have a playlist of joining techniques that show my favorites you could watch ti give you some ideas. Gives a flat seam on both sides and hides the yarn . 👏🏻👏🏻💕

Keep working the sane multiple you were using for the circle and when you’re ready to square it off, count how many stitches you have on your circle and divide by 4 to find your corners. Work the sides with hdc and sc to straighten the edge. You’ll have more stitches to work so just evenly space then I’m a way that looks good . 👍🏻💕

If I wanted to make a larger granny square, like the circle lots bigger, is there an increment and how would I know how to straighten out the first row of making it square? Or is this even possible, LOL
@PlayHookywithMe
11 ай бұрын
Absolutely! Just keep going up by an increment of 12 using the standard increase sequence for a circle. If you’re not sure what that is , there are tons of videos out there for that or you can Google it., Basically : 12 Increase each st (24) Inc, 1sc repeat (36) Inc , 2sc repeat (48) Inc, 3 sc repeat (60) And so on to get the size you want. Then divide that final count by 4 . For example let’s say you finished on 60. 60 divided by 4 = 12 so your corners would be on the 15th stitch on each side. BUT with with this square I worked two stitches for the corners so you’ll need to subtract 2 to get that corner number. So for example , your corners here would start on each 13th stitch. Confused? Hopefully not! If you get to a point where you need help with the squaring off , I’ll be happy to help 💕

THIS NOW BECOMES MATHEMATICS : THE CIRCLE NEEDS TO BECOME A SQUARE: WORK OUT THE NUMBER OF YOUR STITCHES TO FIT INTO 4 equal PARTS: (that is the square now!) EACH SECTIONS MUST HAVE THE SAME NUMBER OF STITCHES:: or it wont work: silly billy me got stuck!! I think we all know this...... just a reminder !!
