I think the +2 food in the trade route is meant to be there because other civs are more likely to send you a trade route if they get 2 food and therefore you are more likely to get the +2 gold.

she's my main, won just about every single game with her, the flood damage with the amounts of times the rivers flood before you get dams is nuts... not a single worry with her and combine it with the river goddess to start and it's just bonus.

One of the best things about playing Egypt is that you aren't playing against Egypt. Cleo's AI is a b****. I have lost count of the number of times she has spawned near me, we are friendly the whole game, and then she unlocks a new unit and upgrades her army. Immediately she is like 'You are weak! I hate you! WAR!' It has reached the point that if I find her spawning near me, I immeditely shift to a war footing and take her out. She is just too unstable to live next to her.

I feel like they are good at stopping others from winning. That chariot archer is great on defence. The sphinx will stop other from culture victory and help religion. Production boost good for space parts and wonder blocking.

I agree with your judgement, definitely a "jack of all trades" type civ like Rome. The extra 15% production towards districts and wonders next to rivers is really good especially in the late game though. And if you have cities next to floodplains, you can get some insane yields that can help you throw up wonders quickly. The unique improvement is pretty decent also, allowing you generate early culture (and later tourism), the maryanuu chariot archer seems to be merely a defensive unit, in which it excels at.

I think you massively underrate the Maryannu Chariot. Rather than comparing it to the Heavy Chariot, compare it to the Crossbow. 5 less melee and ranged strength - which isn't nothing, but is hardly unchallengeable (especially as the extra movement enables you to get around quickly, thus bringing more firepower to each fight as your troops are on the front line as opposed to marching towards it), but 60 less production and 1 less GPT (so only 2/3 the cost). Also, more movement than the Crossbow. The Crossbow is already a really strong unit (all ranged land units with 2 or more range are pretty good), and the Maryannu Chariot is arguably better due to the extra movement and cheaper cost (this is just a straight up combat comparison, not even taking into account the fact that the chariot is available an era earlier). I think that (all else being equal), a chariot spammer would probably beat a crossbow spammer, as there would be 50% more units for the chariot spammer and the Chariots would be much quicker to reinforce (and the difference in combat strength, while noticeable, could not account for that). Other thing to note is that the policy to boost production is an 100% boost (I think, as it counts as a ranged unit as opposed to a cavalry unit) as opposed to a 50% boost (which the heavy chariot gets) so the cost difference isn't as much as you might think. However, I thought your comments on the Sphinx vastly overrated it. To my mind, they are pretty much useless and I never build them. In saying that, most of the unique improvements are. Remember, there is an opportunity cost to each unique improvement, in that you can't build a mine or a farm in the place you build the unique improvement. As this game is fundamentally about food and hammers, sacrificing that for a small amount of faith and culture just isn't worth it. It is true that I tend towards science/domination victories, so might be biased against them. But I still think food and hammers is just better. It just gives you more of everything (production can be used to build theatre squares/wonders if you want tourism). Regarding the point about it enables you to work previously unworkable tiles, unless you have Petra, putting a sphinx on a desert is still not a good tile to work (1 faith 1 culture as opposed to 2 food 4 hammers for a grassland hill mine - maybe it would get worked in a city of population 15+, but before then there are probably higher priority tiles to work).

I think the thing people often neglect about UUs is their staying power. For me a veteran UU like the chariot archer that can still hold its own an era after it unlocks is a solid unit. India's elephant is the same way. Put them in corps or even armies and they are tough units long after they shouldn't be.

The desert spawn bias is a killer. As soon as I find out a civ has a desert spawn bias it's an immediate turn off for me personally. I think any civ that has a tundra or desert spawn bias should recive some bonus for settling there. like a +1 food, +1 Production buff to all desert plains from the start with periodic buffs to those with civics and technologies learned to keep up with other civs or the ability to place down farms on desert tiles. Petra is very good but only helps 1 city, if you're settling in the desert there has to be a lot of hills and a couple flood plains in the area for it to be worthwhile at all but too many floodplains and Petra looses strength. Obviously theres other advantages with the amount of desert specific wonders you have access to over other civs. Petra, pyramids, Jebel, and Sankore are all desert specific wonders that you will have priority access to that other wont unless they are unlucky and recive a desert spawn aswell... Idk, deserts just suck ass.

Egypt is basically bad Nubia. It is one of those civs which I wish was done well, but unfortunately, I find its powers really underwhelming. A trading bonus you have little control over and which provides benefits to your competitors, a very small production bonus for wonders and districts if you place them on rivers, the ability to place districts and wonders on flood plains which would probably have been better used for farms, and a unique unit which is arguably a net negative. Yes, the Maryannu is powerful, and tactically handy since it combines range with mobility, but it is also very expensive, blocks the Heavy Chariot, and upgrades to a Crossbowman rather than a Knight. The Sphinx is the best part about Egypt, as a pretty good source of early culture. In my opinion, Egypt is one of the weakest civs in the game.

I wonder if they'll make Egypt immune to the floods in Gathering Storm. Otherwise, putting districts on floodplains is probably a really bad move, as they can't benefit from the fertility, but would still need to be repaired.

Is it basically like an all/neutral. Play to trade and don’t war unless you have to? I’m talking about single player btw. Not in multiplayer yet.
