Do you have disability access, such as ramps, lifts, etc, at cranham station? Also, are there possibly any toilet facilities?.. If not, are there any plans, to install such features, perhaps?

Hi, firstly, thank you so much for subscribing and also your message. I can't actually believe you mentioned toilets and disabled facilities because it was just last night that the wige asked exactly the same question. The era that I'm modelling is based on the stations that I remember from the 80's and unfortunately most of them have no facilities for disabled and not just for those, but also no consideration for those with prams and pushchairs. Also toilet facilities were not rife on any of the stations I used to travel to and from. With that said, I might think about adding a lift shaft housing that protrudes from each platform so passengers take the lift down under the station and they can then go through a subway to the lift for the other platform. As for toilets, I've already looked at a place for them. The station still needs work done anyway, it needs platform numbers, shelters and lighting also needs wiring. Thanks again for mentioning this. All the best Lee

Surprisingly, that's not the first time somebody has accused me of sounding like there wife, either. You're, quite right, though, regarding lack of toilet facilities, on the local stations, in the late eighties, earlier nineties. If I recall, correctly, those that did have facilities, used to implement a 5p toll charge, for using the female toilets, for reasons that remain, unknown, to me. Even today, most the local stations in Birmingham have no disabled access, or toilets, to speak of. Many a time, I have helped a single mother with pushchair n, child in tow, navigate the 96 steps at stechford station. Despite all this, I think this is probably, my favourite era, as regards to trains. I especially, loved the BR blue 125, n, deltic 37 class locos, that frequently pulled most the freight loads around, back then.. Those locos genuinely had charm, charisma, n, some romance about them, I'll concede that.. Incidentally, the reason I found your videos rather appealing, firstly is because you said, you had nobody to share the passion with, n, secondly, you had never owned any model trains, until now. I recently found myself in a similar position, n, considered modelling this era of trains, on my own layout. I did, however, eventually, decide to go for a more recent era. I found some of the modern emu trains rather appealing, and my friends seem to take a little more interest in modern trains, so, these were just two reasons, I had.. I did wonder, if you had any trouble with you're inclines?.. That was the original reason, I started watching a few model railway videos. I figured, a little research wouldn't, hurt.. Thanks for the reply, look forward to your future vids 👍🏻

@@Bowsta747 you are so right there my friend with regards to local stations still having no access for disabled/pushchairs nor toilet facilities, most of our stations in London and surrounding areas such as the London Underground are fine examples. The incline works perfectly fine, although I haven't tested all trains. I think you are onto something there and I will do a video showing trains operating on it. Thanks again for your comments, they really are appreciated and I just want to say that I too love the blue grey BR 125 and I am actually thinking of grabbing one in the new year. You mentioned your layout and it would be great to see a quick video on it. All the best, take care and speak soon. Lee

Glad to hear you had no trouble with your inclines. I know if a train is going uphill it naturally, doubles the pulling weight, and if there is a corner involved, it will further double the pulling weight. Therefore, if you run trains longer than 4 coaches long, sometimes they recommend using weights, or two engines, perhaps... This was my major concern when planning my layout, as I wanted to run lengthy freight trains, occasionally.. I've literally only built the elevated ramp, on the far side, then tested my 4 car train would be able to climb it, without trouble.. I not sure about longer trains, though.. I'd certainly, love to film my layout, to share n, all, but I've barely had chance to get anything done, with renovating the rest of the house.. Thankfully though, I have managed to buy plenty flexitrack, and another 4 car hst, also, a 2 car dmu, to add to my collection. I'll hopefully, have a little more time in the early spring, n, have my baseboards complete, track laid, etc, then... I'll likely, set up a KZitem channel for that, once I have something to show, folk.. I'll keep you informed, send you a subscription 👍🏻

That would be great as I'd love to see how you progress, but also your collection... hst, 2 car dmu? Sounds just would I like👍🏻its interesting what you said about 4 car trains and long car trains on inclines and like I said, I haven't tried my incline with all my trains, but, with that said, I will defo do a video on it and give you a mention to dedicate the video to you. All the best and speak soon. Lee

Lovely model, great compliment to your other one. The flickering lights could be a poor connection in the carriage. Maybe a pick up is not touching the wheels or something similar. Could even be tarnished wheels if model has been in shop for a while MAYBE?

Hi John, thanks for your comment. You are probably right about a dodgy connection somewhere because the power car lights up fine. Think it needs a thorough investigation. All the best mate, Lee

Pleased that you got a nice new train set for your layout and like you say, it does add a bit more colour to your collection of trains so far. Maybe the flickering in your coach could be due to the contacts not making a good contact to the wheels, or axle wherever they pick up the current from the rails. Once you eventually go over to DCC, the lights will be able to be switched on and off through your control module, as your track will be permanently live. I look forward to your next update Lee, you are doing a great job so far. Wishing you all the best and a Happy New Year. Cheers for now.................Geoff

Hi, I have just subscribed as I really like the look of your railway. Sadly I’ve not got a railway myself as I live in a flat, but maybe one day... Anyway does your new trains direction lighting change when the train changes direction? I know your other two car train didn’t so wondered if this had been improved! I remember traveling on these noisy things in the 80’s and hating them at the time, but now I look back at them with fond memories... strange that lol

Morning James. Firstly I just want to say thank you for subscribing to my channel and also for your comment. Unfortunately the 2 new trains dont have direction lighting, only one direction, which is a shame because they're great looking models. With that said, I don't really mind too much because they are probably the smoothest runners I own, but.. the real truth is... like you, I was commuting on these in the 80's and I get a real kick out of looking at them as I rember the loud clattering they made, the slamming doors and the stink of stale cigarette smoke lol. Thanks again James and speak to you soon. All the best, Lee

Nice looking new model adds a welcome splash of colour. The finer detail comes in time get the major jobs done then tinker with the bits and pieces to get that authentic look till your happy with the results. Well done with progress so far look forward to the new year and progress to dcc ,it isn't as hard as you think just take your time its not a race.

Thanks mate. It does add that splash of colour and the layout will become more colourful as it develops with scenery etc. I know this all takes so much time and like as mentioned, work comments come first, but, with that said, im am absolutely loving building this railway and really look forward to doing more in the years agead. Thanks as always for watching and also for your comments. Take care mate, all the best for new year and speak soon. Lee

Hi Lee, another great video. Lovely looking train you got for Christmas. Nice to see all the extra bits inside too. Has for the extra station that come with your train, you can always scratch build to make a bigger station further around your layout. Keep up the good work and looking forward to more of your videos in 2020. Happy New Year.
