Ah nice one Michael. Yeah, I'm hoping the card looks better because the brickwork would look so much more realistic. I'm hoping that the laser cut windows will keep it in check too. I'm going to reuse the plastic roof from the existing one, because that actually looks alright. I know some buildings have big doors and windows, but because I was basing the dimensions on them, the whole thing has just blown out of scale. All the best Michael and thanks again. Lee

Hi Lee, I had wondered about those windows and how you really felt about them, you’re doing the right thing by buying some and those smart models windows are excellent especially in 00. As for the brick work it looks fine on camera Lee, have a look at Scalescenes brick paper too, pint it on an A4 label and stick to card, they do some very realistic brick. Brilliant that you got the derailing situation sorted out. People are always so helpful and their knowledge always amazes me, things I never think of. I’m still catching up since my recent holidays, haven’t done anything on my layout for ages, thought I’d get a chance today but my builder is coming back to back some adjustments to our new room! Cheers for now mate, John

Hello John. Good to hear from you as always mate. Yeah, I was never happy with the station building from the moment I built ut. The Smart Models windows arrived yesterday and I've began a mock up on paper of the new version of the building and... you are not going to believe this one.. a guy called Harry has emailed me the original drawings of the old station building, how lucky was that. I quite fancy the brick card because it has the different types of brick shades and hopefully give it more character. I'll checkout the one you mentioned as I have time to decide still. I'll be using the plasticard roof on the existing building as I dont like the printed roof tiles, they look a bit fake (just my opinion). Take care and thanks always mate. Lee

Hi Lee, funnily enough I am having exactly the same issues with my Bachmann NSE MK1’s one certain part of the layout. Better get the spirit level out! Another tip… turn the coach upside down, the hooks for the springs on the couplings tent to bend and snag on the bogie frames. I’ve had to file a fair few of mine.

Hrllo mate. I've just seen you are dugmer junction, so.I popped over to your channel and subscribed. With bogies and so on, I spent hours upon hours trying to see if it was anything to with them or the couplings and it was all about that bit of track all along. The weird thing is, all the other rolloing stock were fine, but when you look at the nse coaches, the wheels are larger than any other rolling stock. Thanks again for watching and now I know about your channel and subscribed, I'll take a look. Thanks again. Lee

Hi Lee, I'm so pleased for you yay! They are lovely coaches indeed so I'm glad they are now running as they should. As for the station, that's a shame like you said but if your not happy then it's got to go. Also if you don't like using card you can buy and use thin A4 sheets of plasticard with is very easy to work with and that I use on my scratchbuilding projects. Hope this helps. Susannah.

Hi Susannah. Like I said in the video, I am so grateful. You were spot on. Because the track is layed on flooring underlay, its quite soft and it had buckled the track on one side. That A4 brick plastic sheet you mentioned, is it Slaters? I've got some (you can see I made platform 6 shelter with it). The problem is, not only is it hard to cut, I'm not very good at painting it to look realistic, despite trying so many techniques from other youtubers. Hopefully the brick card will work, but we'll see. Lol. Thanks again Susannah for all your support, it's really helped and much appreciated. Take care. Lee

Another great update Lee. Just a couple of suggestions. Reference your Network South East Mk 1 BG. If I may suggest put this either at the end or the start of the rake. The Network South East Buffet car I would suggest place between the 1st class coaches & second class. As I say just a couple of suggestions. Hello Mark, how are you mate. I actually forgot about the carnival, not that I've ever been before. So the signal box would communicate to the drivers by speakers. That sounds like a good thing because then the passengers would hear and know what train is doing what. What sort of years did they do that because I might have to add that as one of the details and I love info like this, It facinates me. I thought I'd spend the bank holiday tidying up the loft and having a running session so I banged out this video. Anyway mate, hope that helicopter has gone and you get a bit of peace. Yeah, it just ain't right and was doing me nut in big time. It was only when I put a figure next to it that I clocked on, but to be perfectly honest, I probably would've re-done it. I reckon the brick card and laser cut windows should do it. I just reckon because it's easier to cut and handle, the results should be better and this time I'll take my own pictures, I'm there tomorrow so I'll do it then. Hi Lee, glad you sorted out the derailing of your coaches. Runs really nice. If you are not happy with the size of your train station, use it for Bolt Action. Why don't you stick with plasticard and use a dremel to cut out the door and windows?
@leewhall2504
2 жыл бұрын
Hello Gal. Yeah I couldn't believe it when the coach mystery was sorted and like I said in the video, I really like them. Using the dremel to cut the plasticard is a good idea and would probably work actually. The only problem left would be the brickwork because I just can't paint it properly, regardless of endless attempts. Atleast the card has the colours of the various bricks that make it up, giving it some interest and realism. I seriously think it will look so much better. You saying about bolt action, it would be perfect for that and probably the perfect scale. I'll check it with one of the troops. I'd like to use it because then it's not wasted

For scratch building Buildings it might be worth drawing a mock up on paper or scrap card. This enables you to check fit & dimensions before committing to any time or expense. I would suggest having a look a Chandwell, many useful tips, made all the more impressive as he is working in N scale! Your station building might be salvageable if you can think of some sort of feature to block in the window arches, then just add a 3rd floor into the roof. The door maybe OK if you do something like the Metcalfe building you showed, with the smaller door in the entry way. Hope this helps.
@leewhall2504
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris. Yes, I watch Chadwell and still can't believe a person can get through so many cereals! Lol! I was actually going to do a mock this and the way the building structure is going to be done will be with 2mm card (once I've got the dimensions right). This means it won't be covered in the brick card until its right. One of my subscribers emailed me some drawings of the station which is just what I need. So I'll be working from those. I thought long and hard about salvaging the building, but by the time its all been cut and adjusted, there would be nothing left. Thanks again Chris. Best regards mate, Lee

I’m glad you’ve gotten the mk 1’s to run smoothly, it’s good to know they’re fussy before I’ve laid my track. Other than the windows I thought your station building was decent but seeing a figure next to it quickly proved the scale was an issue. I’m not sure why you don’t like the Plasticards finish but I’m certain card will be easier to use; getting proportions can be very difficult but (if you can) I would use the drawings I emailed, they make scratch building much, much easier. Looking forward to seeing the new station building -Harry

Hi Harry. Those emails you send were just brilliant. They really were so informative, and you can blatantly see from them, that my station building is wrong. Its wrong in size, proportion and most other things. I wanted to mention you in this video, but after waffling, I realised afterwards. I really hope the new version comes out right and I reckon with the printed brick pattern and the pre-cut windows, it should look the part. I just don't like the plasticard finish because I can't get the painting right (in my opinion). That figure just shows how wrong it is and it makes the trains look too small. Anyway Harry, thanks again for everything, I really appreciate it. Take care mate. Lee

@@leewhall2504 That’s no problem, I’m very pleased to hear the pictures were helpful. Painting plasticard can be tricky but it gives for a lot of flexibility, do you know how you will accomplish the courses of blue brick on printed brick? Happy to help -Harry
@leewhall2504
2 жыл бұрын
I've already thought about the blue brick and was thinking of masking taping off the lines and going at it that way. It will be fiddly, but it has to be done because the blue brick lines, gives it that character. I've also got the exposed lintels above the windows to think about. I've got quite a few materials on order, so I'm hoping to come up with something. I just really hope this second attempt will work. I was even considering building the signal box first to see how it comes out because that is much boxier and easier. I do think with the station building done in card and the signal box matching, the station will look more together and uniform (even though the real one isn't).
@harryunderhill5604
2 жыл бұрын
@@leewhall2504 Indeed, it wouldn’t be right without the blue brick - masking it off is probably the safest way to go, although I can’t think of how to colour them without completely repainting that course of bricks. I would recommend making a simple line-side hut to practice on as its much less stressful and will allow you to play around with different methods. Making the signal box first could be a good way to go, as you say it’s a lot less intricate. Despite the prototype not being so, It would be very satisfying to see the station look more uniform. Im sure whatever you try it will look good. Regards -Harry

Yeah you are right Harry, I'm thinking the same thing of how to not paint the mortar joing on the blue course. Practicing is definitely the way to go here. The signal box doesn't have the blue course so would be much easier, but I really want the station done and hopefully with the card it will be much more enjoyable instead of getting blisters and so on. Anyway, we'll see and at least I'm armed with those drawings this time. Take care Harry and thanks again. Lee
