There are some iconic pedals that veterans can recognize almost instantly. For me it's 1. Metal zone because it's a pedal I used a lot when starting out; 2. Blues driver and 3. Tube screamer because I use both extensively the last 10 years. Everything else I wouldnt be able to tell in a blind test

It's definitely a case of if you've used one of these pedals for a bit you immediately get the feel for it. Tube Screamer was my first so I could never miss it. Rat has that weird OD/distortion/fuzz hybrid sound that's pretty unique. And the Muff is just so thick in the sustain you'll know that one right away too. I would struggle with the SD1 Nobles, and Blues Breaker as I'm least familiar with them, maybe the Klon too considering I use it to only add a little hair and push to mostly clean tones.

No no no, Rob got 6 out 8 correctly the first time, as he didn't say Blues Breaker but said it was the Marshall "thing" and was obviously meaning that specific pedal. I would give him another half point as he described the Rat as it sounds, but couldn't really name it. The only one he really didn't get was the Nobles, but got it the second time, after Lee confused him between the Rat and the Blues Breaker. So, I would give him another half point for that! 😄 Chaptastic as usual!!!

I started using a JHS Notaklon as my main overdrive with the gain anywhere between 3/4 to all the way up. It's a great main overdrive.

Rob is really good at this! I just bought a Line 6 POD go and I have never owned anything but multi effects pedals. Playing for 30+ years and never bought one. (I know that is pretty weird.) So this has helped me pick out a distortion pedal I like. BTW I really am enjoying the POD Go... Buy one! 😀

I think the reason Rob has a harder time with pedals is because unlike guitars or pickups, he doesn't have all the models memorized in his head. It's a lack of knowledge around the products not the sounds. An ODR-1 wouldn't even occur to him. His quick answers were because they were pedals he's had before. If he hasn't owned em, he doesn't know em.

Just what I was hearing through my Bose speaker, obviously if you had them side by side in person, which I have never done, I could hear the difference, but I wouldn't say they have "nothing" in common, they both have that driving bluesy overdrive tone hence the name of both ,not full out distortion, I do have a blues driver but not a blues breaker to be fair

I've watched other videos where metal zone was purposely not adjusted properly to make it sound bad, when properly adjusted it sounds fantastic mild to wild , I have the Waza Craft keep the switch on c. With the excellent 3 band eq you can get just about any sound you want.

He did great (as usual), but how can you not recognize the Bluesbreaker, and even more baffingly confuse it with a Rat?! The captain even gave him a huge hint ("This is what it sounds like at max gain, so you know this is a lower gain pedal"or something like that), He did do brilliantly on the rest though. Also, there are a myriad of great Klon clones out there. Tried a lot of them. The best one (to me) only cost me €40.
