Oh man, that screwdriver is beautiful. I'm not sure I understood what you meant by the arrow shaft part. But I'll go re-watch. Favorite line: "Oh yeah, that's right, it's red. It's probably not wood."

I thought of buying some deadblow hammers, but I'm closer to the other side of tooling up. Anyway, my buddy, Tommy Lee, gave me a 2# copper hammer which has served me well for decades. WhenTommy was still with us, he was a machinist at a steel mill. The first thing he said when he found out I was buying an engine lathe was, "You'll need a copper hammer." He was right. They were so much like bubble gum in his shop, they cast the copper and handled them right there. Thanks, Tommy, wherever you are!

Yesterday I picked up a large Rosco square shank screwdriver with a translucent handle from a thrift shop for 99 cents, it had a broken tip, in the past I would had reground it on my bench grinder but I used the ScoutCrafter technique and did it using my angle grinder, wow, that works better, much easier to control the grind. I feel good about saving that old tool, I like it so much I can't wait for the patina to grow on the new ground area...LOL

Hey John, Great screwdriver, I love the idea of the bolt in the end of it. It would work good as a striker cap too. Well I beat you to it. Wish I got one years ago but..... - Later

Ash is a very underated wood. I think it's because it has a coarse grain. But it also has intelocking grain and that makes it extremely durable. Roy Underhill claimed it was the prefered wood for wagon wheel hubs. You know, the center part that could split. Using Ash it is apparently far less likely to split. They actually used different woods in those old wagon wheels. Each being chosen for specific qualities. BTW we are losing Mountain Ash by the boatloads here due to the Emerald Ash Borer. We used to have piles of free wood chips and they are not even doing that any more to make sure the wood diseases don't travel as much.
