O Holy Night is easily my favorite Christmas song, & this version is just stunning. No matter how many times I hear it, that ending always gives me goosebumps. And I always forget just how young Austin was when he joined HF. What a talent! I'm heartbroken that he left the group, though I understand & respect his decision. As for Adam, yes, he has a nice voice, & will use it when he needs to. But he's uncomfortable singing (especially solo parts) & doesn't particularly enjoy it. Beatboxing is his thing. Fun fact: Adam also plays the trumpet!

This is so gorgeous. I think the bass you hear when Tim is singing the lead is a doubletracking. Both he and Chris have said in interviews that while Chris would do the underlying bass when they sang live, for studio recordings they would doubletrack Tim. I am enjoying the way you explain what's happening to make the music sound like it does. Very interesting. Thanks!

Yes, Chris Rupp has a You Tube channel where he has reviewed some of the songs he performed with Home Free. I heard him say there that in recordings, they would have Tim sing the bass in another "layer" because he sounds so much more "bass-y". But, live...Chris would sing it. You saw him sing bass on the Sing Off "Ring of Fire" while Tim was singing the melody...but when Austin took over the lead, Tim switched with Chris and went back to singing the bass line and it was so much stronger than when Chris was doing it. I believe you even commented on Tim's strong bass when he covered that under Austin's lead there. Anyway...all that to say, I agree and I also heard Chris Rupp say that.😊

The arrangement was done by teenaged Tim. At that time when Tim sang lead Chris covered the bass, but only live, in the studio Tim just did both layers. When Chris left and they got Chance as their baritone, Chance and Tim actually switch on occasion, Chance is also naturally a bass, just not as extreme as Tim. It gives them a lot more flexibilty compared to with Chris as a natural bari-tenor covering for bass

I just re-watched it, and it appears that in most of it, Chance is carrying the bass and Tim is adding an extra harmony voice - essentially he is 'being Chris' and Chance is 'being Tim'. The quality of the video is such that it is hard to tell if it is Tim or Adam that is hitting the B under Austin's E, but it is definitely one of them.

Home Free does a great rendition of DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR? It's filmed in Minnesota in what they call an ice castle. They are definitely outside as you can see their breath. There are tunnels, if you will, that I would imagine are used for acoustics. Tim Foust's bass is ridiculous, yet again. Not surprised. Austin is impressive as well. They all are. I'm a huge PTX fan, but Home Free is a really close second. It's kind of hard to compare because of different styles and such. David Phelps does this song as well and was my favorite for so many years from his Album Joy Joy, but something about Home Free and this song just grabbed me. I know I enjoyed it just as much if not more. I don't know if it's the voices or the video or a combination of both, but I enjoyed it so much.. At the end of the video they speak and give Adam the credit for the arrangement. O Holy Night is my favorite Christmas song and Do You Hear What I Hear is my second favorite. Home Free did an excellent job with it for certain.

You are going to entirely spoil me for a lot of other reactions! Thank you very much! 😀 After the Christmas season is over (which doesn't seem like that even should already be that close...sigh), I'm thinking you might want to add another song to your already-growing list, Tim Foust and Peter Hollens, singing Misty Mountains...oh...my...word. Another great Tim duet is with Chris, from AFTER Christ went out on his own. They sing Alabama's song "Angels Among Us." Home Free had done it as a group before, but the mix of JUST Chris and Tim is absolutely stunning. Their voices blend particularly well. As I was watching that video for the first time (a long time back, now), it dawned on me that part of their wonderful blend may well be because they have similar muscular features in their upper bodies, up to the shapes of their faces and the way they use their mouths. After I started seeing it, I got really fascinated by it. Then there's a place in the song where they begin walking along and singing together, and the similarities are quite enhanced. It's pretty cool. They also have done another song together: "Long Black Train," which is one of my ALL-TIME favorites (originally written and sung by Josh Turner (can you tell I like bass voices?). I still like Josh's own version the best, but Chris and Tim did a REALLY great job with it, as well.

I’ve seen other reaction channels react to Christmas songs throughout the year and the vibe in the comment sections has always been that people are pretty “chill”😉 with it. PTX fans are especially understanding about this because otherwise they just wouldn’t hear reactions to many of the Christmas songs that Pentatonix does. There’s just no way possible to cram it all into that tiny window just before Christmas. If you feel like you need a reason or excuse, you could plan a “Christmas in July” feature. That’s a real thing. I’ve seen it in advertising etc. Just an idea.

Yeah that was a thought of mine - something Christmas/summer related!@@karenm5681 I'd hope it wouldn't offend people...

@@SirHairless Christmas in July theme? No, I don’t think it would offend people. And if it does? Hmmm…if that offends them then they’re too easily offended. It’s your channel, you can do what you want! 😎 Merry Christmas🎄 Enjoy this special day.😊🎁⭐️✨♥️

I think you'd really appreciate Voctave. They're a larger acapella group with complex arrangements that still has a classic acapella style. They do not have a vocal percussionist. One of their tenors does all (or at least most) of their arrangements.

@@SirHairless Exciting!! They're a bigger, more choral-style group. I think you could provide great insights on some of the complexities in their arrangements. They're my favorite acapella group for holiday music, so be sure to save some spots for them next christmas ("O Come All Ye Faithful," Mary Did You Know" featuring songwriter Mark Lowry, and "This is My Wish/Peace on Earth" are my favorites)

Austin has the added bonus, besides being cute as a bug, he has strength and carriage that they likely heard that in China.

Tim says they "found" Austin when they were doing a special request show on board a cruise ship. Austin was part of a theater troupe doing 2 shows a day 6 days a week doing Les Miseralbe. They could hear him up on the main deck. They offered him one show a week and he quit the theater show on the spot and joined Home Free. You should hear him belt out "Let Him Go" from that show. It's on-line somewhere. You'll be glad if you look it up.

@@SirHairless PLEASE add Voctave to your Christmas reactions - this is one of the genres they are best known for and you will definitely be gob-smocked/jaw-on-the-floor! Christmas suggestions: Mary, Did You Know feat. Mark Lowry who wrote the lyrics and sings them like no other can! O Come, All Ye Faithful The Christmas Song Where Are You Christmas? (tissues recommended) You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch Nutcracker Medley - is their newest, just released a couple of weeks ago Bear in mind, Voctave are only a part-time group but they are all professional singers (11 currently and offer a sound due to their male/female mix that Home Free, PTX and VoicePlay can't replicate, though I love them all too).

Hello @@rllangevin3841 ! Duly noted on Voctave - I've been recommended them quite a few times previously and very much plan on reacting to them in the future. My Christmas schedule for this year is all booked up! There's always next year...and by that point I should be well-acquainted with them

Chris Rupp has said that Rob makes better anyone he sings with. I don’t know for sure but I believe the high note you liked on the last “divine” chord was sung by Tim. After Austin he can hit the highest notes.

Wow, he can?! What a range 😅 On that amazing climax chord I can hear Tim singing a lower part in the upper register of his chest voice, so if he is singing the top E it'll be thanks to layering - cool!

@@nancyholter5646 Austin is singing the melody beneath the E - so if he has the E, it's been multi-tracked
