Now that the diff is stripped down, the diff is ready to be cleaned.
You can use normal degreaser to clean up the parts. Remember
to wash the parts with water after and blow them of with
a air gun.
After that I cleaned the mating surface with a scotch brite pad on
my small sander. This can also be done with a razer blade or any
other flat object. Do not use rough sand paper as this will damage
the surface and cause oil leaks!
Part 3 is all about pressing the bearings on!
You can also use this video as a reference for 100, 80, 79, 75, 70 and any other car with a similar diff setup.
Parts required:
1) Diff bearing rebuild kit
- 2x carrier bearings
- 2x pinion bearings (upper and lower)
- crush tube
- pinion seal
- oil catcher
- marking compound
- New gasket
2) New diff oil
3) Optional extras
- Locker (ARB, TJM, E-Locker)
- Solid pinion spacer
- New crown wheel and pinion
- Pinion flange
- Dust cover (if reusing old pinion flange)
Minimum Tools required:
- Torque wrench
- Sockets
- Rattle gun
- Centre punch
- Hammer
- Bearing puller
- Brass rod
- Loctite red (hard set)
- Chisel
- Gasket goo/ silicone sealant
- Dial indicator and magnetic base
- Workshop manual for your specific car
