It does! Just make sure to go watch the video I did on it. The one thing I will recommend- use the 2 lid method on a jar, but invert the top one. It still helps put the pressure on the bottom lid, but won't get sealed itself. Good to use another day! I keep 1 in my kit that I just reuse.

Great video. I’m curious. Is it possible to store sour candies like sour patch kids long term? And if so, how would you do it? I’m curious because sour patch kids has sugar and I know oxygen absorbers shouldn’t be used on sugar but not sure if that’s the same thing?
@ThePurposefulPantry

Airtight containment. Vacuum sealing isn't the same thing as using an O2 absorber, and gummies will eventually turn hard no matter what you do over the long-term.

@ThePurposefulPantry

I don't. I'm not that particular about it, because breaching the package makes it more susceptible to other elements once you open the jar and begin to use the contents again.

Can you vacuum seal cheese crackers and creme filled cookies such as Oreos? Wonder how long it would extend their shelf life?
@ThePurposefulPantry
3 жыл бұрын
I've seen people do it, but different that chocolate, for me, is the fact that there is moisture in the fillings that I would worry about botulism issues in a low oxygen environment. Airtight does extend the life more than simply storing it in the packaging they come in. But vacuums sealing is one I would shy away from.

I’m trying to get some snacks put up for my grandkids! Do you think this would work for the little pkgs of mini muffins or pop tart bites? All I’ve done so far is some bulk M&M’s and some chocolate chips! I asked in a Facebook group and was told I shouldn’t be buying those foods anyway because they weren’t healthy 🙄 they’ll have plenty of healthy things but thought some familiar treats would be nice!
@ThePurposefulPantry

I wouldn't do the one's that are bread for long-term storage since they'll tend to go rancid faster, but it will help keep them from getting stale too quickly. So think three-six months, not two years.

Do you know about how long you can keep the candy after the actual best by date I ve got some I stored 4 to 5 years ago, do you think it's still good? Like M&M's some have nuts some dont, have mini for baking, All kinds of semisweet chips for baking. What do you think on these.
@ThePurposefulPantry
3 жыл бұрын
The ones with nuts may taste funky after this time because nuts don't store well long-term. But it'll just be a texture/taste issue for the rest, but they won't be bad for you. It'll be an issue of just taste testing.

The palatability of chocolate will degrade over time because of the fat content. I do not have an exact time for you, but a year+ is easily if you keep it between 42-70F. But it will degrade over time.

@@ThePurposefulPantry Hey there, thank you for the reply. Ya know, I was just thinking about the problem with fat going rancid. How do we defeat it?
