So let me get this straight. The initial call was for a foul for "targeting", Alabama #6 is ejected, and a 15 yard penalty is enforced. After the review, it was not a "targeting" foul and Alabama #6 is back in the game, but the 15 yard penalty stays? So pretty much the 15 yard penalty stays for absolutely nothing? since the "targeting" foul was not a foul at all...
@sirduckandfriends

That was last year in the 2013 season. Since then the rule has changed and if the ejection is overturned, so is the 15 yard penalty. I saw it in a game this year.
@easyox77

So by that rational does Alabama have to wait until the next year to get their 15 yards back? WTF!!!! I believe their has to be some sort of dead ball comission system that works against a Refs paycheck if they have a certain amount of bad calls that get reviewed and have to overturn on themselves, why teams have to suffer is beyond me?
@connork8097
9 жыл бұрын
easyox77 You think that fining a referee for a missed or blown call should impact their paycheck is a good idea? You are an idiot. You obviously never officiated a game in your life if you think officials have to be perfect. So you are going to take away money from a paycheck, that isn't giving them near enough for the shit they have to deal with? Well you are going to lose even more of your officials in sports. If they have to be right 100% of the time as a requirement then you are looking at a game with no officials. Good luck with that.

Football is fast and violent. It's not like you can precisely intercept a ball nice and kindly without touching anybody or tackle with perfect textbook form every time. C'mon. I've seen some nasty hits of football history and I understand that even an average hit rattles you and that helmets bang hard in the game. I agree with some new rules and awareness to kinda clean up the game. But the refs these days are kinda gettin overboard and it's gonna make players on the defensive side not be able to play naturally and fluently the way they should. They should call more obvious unsportsmanlike dirty hits but within reason... Like don't call fruity little calls where you have to go in the booth and watch in slow mo to see exactly whose helmet tapped first yadda yadda. It's getting queer

Jamal Carter Yes but if a guy hits another guy in the abdomen first and then his helmet carries up his body and hits the players head, that isn't the principle point of contact and so it isn't the defenders fault entirely. This is about targeting and targeted a hit, hardly illegal.

Johnny Cash Tackling low can fucked up a players career. You know how easy you can take somebodies knees out from tackling low? Career ending injuries right there. Once you injure your knees, 99% of the time, you never are the same player. There is always going to be concussions in high impact sports, especially football, no mater how many rules there are, or how good the equipment is. You have 250-300 pound men running 40 yards in under 5 seconds. That is just insane...These players know the risks of football and quite frankly, most of them do get upset with all of these unecessary "pussified" rules. The majority of helmet to helmet plays aren't even intenional. When you are going so fast and when the offensive player unexpectedly lowers his helmet (which is a natural position when your body knows you are going to get hit), it is inevitable that a helmet to helmet will occur a decent amount of times. Some people never played football and don't understand what it is actually like, smh.
@MrGyromancy2

A better solution would be to get M.I.T engineers to make better padding that protects the clavicle and lowers incidence of concussions. But, instead, they keep trying to place unfair restrictions on the defense which ruins the integrity of the sport, and now QB's get way more touchdowns and over-inflated stats

In defense of the officials, the play happened at full speed. It initially appeared to be a helmet to helmet hit by the reaction of the receiver after the collision. When in question, it is a foul" It doesn't matter if he was going for the ball or not! he hit a defenseless player in the head/neck area with his shoulder. By definition, it is targeting.

The defensive player was also defenseless. He was going for the ball so he was looking away. He just made such an angle that he knocked the opposing player down. You sound like you don't understand football when you comment this. Everyone knows it's targeting when it's to the head or neck of a defenseless opponent. Do you want the commentators to read every rule in the book whenever it comes up? "Holding, number 73" "I don't know if he was an offensive player using his hands, arms, or other parts of his body to prevent a defensive player from tackling the ball carrier."
@Jmez2489

+Gabriel Schwartz a defensive player being defenseless generally is a contradiction within itself. I'm not saying there's never a time when a defender can't see as collision about to happen, but in nearly every case the defense has a clear vantage of where their opponent is. This is one of these cases.
