Within the Black Country region of the West Midlands, Dudley zoo and castle is home to some of the world’s rarest and most exotic animals.
A castle has stood overlooking Dudley since 1070 and it was the castle owner, the third earl of Dudley, who decided to create a zoo here in the castle grounds, in the 1930s.
Opening in 1937, there are 12 animal enclosures and other buildings with so much to explore and plenty of animal talks to keep you busy.
We took the land train up to the top of the zoo, which runs approximately every 20 minutes and had a brilliant day walking the around the castle, to see the many animal exhibits.
As we went in early January, many of the animals were in their homes resting, so that led to many close encounters which Charlotte loved.
From Flamingos, to Sumatran Tigers, there are over 1500 animals at Dudley Zoo from 200 species, lots to keep you busy.
Most of all, we have special memories of our time in Lemur wood. A brilliant walkthrough where we had lots of up-close visitors.
So much to enjoy on a packed fun-filled day at Dudley Zoo.
