If the recap emails are unnecessary, then perhaps those conversations themselves are unnecessary/unproductive, and we should optimise our work time/productivity 😅

Just like most meetings - useless and counterproductive, and they keep the people who could actually solve the problems from working.

Basically it's a way that managers try to run their departments without oversight from their OWN managers, by keeping it all off-record. Bad managers do this in order to disobey company policy and then later claim they had no knowledge of it happening. It's vital that employees keep written trails of such verbal instruction, especially in situations where there may be a question of ethics, policy, or legality.

@@seekeroftruth6728CYA doesn’t make you a liability, what it does is stop people lying or throwing you under the bus and if you are working with people who would do that, it’s time to look for another job anyway. Only someone who lies to their staff/colleagues who say following up with an email is a bad idea. Ask the manager I used to work with who thought she could lie to me and about me. Only one of us is still employed and it’s not her, those CYA emails literally saved my ass.

Dragged a manager who was telling me to do two mutually exclusive tasks ( law of physics stuff) in front of the the three assistant mangers and have her repeat her instructions. They all explained patiently that what she was asking could be done in manner a or manner b but doing both an and b at the same time would undo all work. She then spent thirty minutes arguing with them that the impossible was possible while I wandered off and fixed the problem the correct way. I never let her give me directions without two witnesses.

Why a manager would have a problem with an recap email is beyond me. I agree, this is the best way to ensure there are no misunderstandings.

You can quickly tell if a manager is shady if they insist on using Teams to communicate rather than email. Teams doesn't keep a record unless the company specifically archives it and they decide how far back the archive goes. Emails means you have a record and I have a record. Team means in ten days the record vanishes.

Veronica is too saucy and snarky. Even if there is some validity to her points or concerns, her delivery is anything but appropriate.
