This is the least refined of my fights because it only took two tries. Aside from Attendant of the Relics which is only nominally a boss, and Oliver who is a glorified normal enemy, I find this boss the easiest in the game. The only notable things about him are that he has the Dark Souls blind spot (behind him) in both phases, and that his phase change animation is unnecessarily long. If it were me, I’d have left off the damage reduction, given him way more health, and had spawner crystals show up during it.
I don’t think it’s a bad fight, but it’s pretty whatever in a game with mostly excellent ones.
You want this boss’ close AI, because spawning crystals is annoying. I never kill him first try because the cutscene causes the crystal to appear under you when the fight starts. On subsequent attempts, you can manipulate it to be near him (since it tracks your position) to get some extra damage from Blade Dance.
You may notice that I accidentally Shifting Hollow twice while trying to apply Venom Mark. I was at this point still getting used to my controls. I use a Hitbox Cross|Up, and this game requires more buttons than one of those has, so I have some...unusual adaptations.
It’s possible to glitch him out, which keeps his axe stuck in his chest in the second phase. This breaks his attack hitboxes as well, making an easy fight even more trivial. I don’t know how it works, but I believe it’s in my Rin Murasame Cosplay run.
