Hey Dan C, I've been doing cold rinses on my beard this week. My beard feels significantly softer and fuller than before. My white beard is very straight so the cold rinsing appears to be adding some bulk. Does that sound consistent with your understanding? I haven't seen anyone mention it.

My beard really seems to stay in the shape I want much longer and better and I have not changed any products so it HAS to be the cold water rinse. Thanks Dan!!.

Cold water rinse is one of my favorite tips I've gotten from you. Completely changed my beard game for the better since I started doing it a couple of months ago and it feels so much healthier now. Feels like it's growing a lot fuller than it has in the past and responds to products a lot better now. Plus it just feels super refreshing in the morning for that cold blast before getting out of the shower.

Concise and informative. Thanks for the info Dan C. I don't shower every day because, well, I'm retired and don't always do things that make me dirty or stink. But, I wash my non-bearded portion of my face with hot water and soap daily. Then reduce the water temperature to the warm side of tepid (to wash out anything I don't want in my mustache and beard, it's amazing long ice cream or nacho cheese will remain) and finger wash my beard, no cleansing agent. A cold water rinse follows for at least 1 minute. Then on to the oil and styling.

Bearded brotha' from another motha'! I love the cold rinse. Here's my process. Take a lukewarm shower (better for the skin) and cowash/wash the beard. At the end of the shower, add conditioner and let soak into beard for 1 minute. While conditioner is working, slowly begin turning the water temperature down until cold (what you can stand). Final rinse conditioner from beard with cold water. Done! This not only helps my beard hair health but also eliminated the after shower sweat I used to get, especially in the summer time. I would always get out of the shower and start sweating right away until I started my cold water rinse ritual. As always, take care!

Clear explanation. I've become committed to it since your last video on the subject. You said "seals in the cuticle", which I understand to mean the cells overlap much like the shingles on a roof. I wonder what effect that has on product. Co-wash would be "sealed in" as it was applied to "warm" hair, but what about products applied after the cold rinse with the cuticle sealed? Do they work to maintain the sealed state, or become absorbed when the whiskers "open", as it were? Does the amount of product required change significantly with a cold rinse?

Interesting, I’m used to taking hot showers but I’ve never heard of this before. I am really considering it. I do want to ask if rinsing with cold water can help with dry skin in your beard, as it’s quite a pain to deal with sometimes. Although I do use a brush and soap for my beard while bathing as it helps with that. But aside from that, can cold water help with that? On a side note, my beard and mustache didn’t connect until around the time I turned 20.

Hey Dan, would you mind doing a totally unscented video? Like the best oils and balms in your opinion. I am allergic to fragrances, and that often translates to essential oils if there are too many in one bottle. Beard oil is unfortunately too expensive for me to try them to see if I react, and I hate breaking out in hives and broken skin. I appreciate that some companies make unscented but they always market it as a way to not interfere with other scents, but I think more people need to realize there are those of us out there that just can't. Any video would be much appreciated! I imagine you get it, since you have probably been gluten free long before the gluten free craze that flooded the market with options.

I did. Live chat yesterday I wrote “I did my cold rinse a hour ago”. Very interesting because i did it today after the gym. Seems like it works and gives it more control.

Agreed! You should still clean with warm water and finish with a cold rinse

I have recently been having my showers with less heat. I've personally felt so much better in myself and everything since dropping the shower temp. Like you I also will turn it right down to cold for the final 30 seconds though

Also, James Bond has been doing this in his books since book #1 to help wake him up for the same reason. You can also take ice baths in places like Norway for the same health benefits
