@stevesai Its definetly not good for the motor, in fact, the ether is the worst. Normally I will leave it running at a high idle if I know I have to leave in the morning when its that cold. What i did in this video was wrong, as far as trying to step on fuel pedal when this cold. It makes me sick when I watch this video....

The oil is sitting in the oilpan like Molasses, and with no block heater it wont be in much of a hurry to get up to the top of motor. @ 1:14 you can see why I try not to give fuel, I did this ONLY to get smoke for vid. It just sounds like it hurts the motor..

@mami9881 It was below 0 in the early am hours, but I think it was about 10 degrees with a wind chill below 0 in vid. Probably should have just stayed home that day...
@twinstickpete

@weiserbud67 I'm thinking it was like 0-5 above at this time , but it was way below zero through the nite prior to this. Plus the wind chill BBBbrrrrrrrrrrrrr

@stevesai Yep, High enough to raise oil pressure to atleast 40psi, Its not an everyday thing, in fact its rare that I even work when weather is that cold.

@goodolbl honestly I dont know, is that a bad thing? I though it was ok as long as you are givin it some foot in neutral standing still just to warm it quicker?

@twinstickpete that i know it was also the last year u could get a 359 and the only year with a raised roof sleeper and they were also numbered trucks
@weebl15

The cylinders are so large that the middle of the air being compressed doesn't lose all of its heat because it is insulated by the air around it. In small diesel engines all of the heat gets lost to the cold cylinder walls.

I used to drive to oldest truck in the fleet that had a 350 Cat with 875XXX km's. That truck ran great an got awesome fuel mileage too, but I would never start if it went below -15c

Jordan Graff ohhhhhhh , no worries my friend....from what I just read there was a limited amount of 359s made in 87.. but mine was definitely an 87 379 379: The 379 was Peterbilt's flagship truck from 1987 until the 2007 model year maintaining the nameplate's signature long-nose styling. Available in standard (119" BBC) and long hood (127" BBC) lengths. Replacing the "359" in 1987, it remained in production until March 2007 with the last 1000 379s
