I always thought the Trooper with the solid rib top and half lug shroud barrel was one of the nicest-looking handguns Colt ever made. I hope Colt will bring back the 4 inch, half lug Trooper with the New Python lockwork.

Owned a 1966 Colt Trooper blued and a 1966 4 inch Colt Python. The only similarity is the frame, I talked with a Colt gunsmith who retired in the 90’s. He explained to me that the Python Royal Blued finish was polished with buffing wheels the same process to make the bright Nickel. The action of the Trooper was not hand fitted or given a Royal Blued finish. The Colt Python was basically a hand fitted custom revolver. The reason the single action is butter smooth on the original. The new 2020 Python single action is not even close.

Interesting video, sounds like an INTERESTING PROJECT. I've got 2 of the EARLY PRE-PYTHONS (4"& 6")!! The 6" one was the first one I acquired the interesting fact about it someone replaced the cylinder and crane with a PYTHON cylinder and crane!!? Whoever did it did a GREAT JOB because it not only WORKS GREAT IT'S A SHOOTER!!! I checked out a NEW PYTHON and the single action on my pistol is MUCH lighter than the NEW ONE. THE ACTION IS SILKY SMOOTH!!!! 😉😁👍Oh my pistol has the horse, has new style Python grips and on the barrel it is stamped Colt 357 and below that 357 Magnum*!!!👍

Guys actually did what you’re wanting to do in the 70’s. They were known as “poopers” the issue you will find is a gap from the top of the frame and the top rib if the python barrel aren’t a flush fit.

Im running a little late on giving ya an opinion but i say go for it man. I think a python barrel on your trooper would be slick as buttered brass. And i would also change the grips. I seem to have adjusted fine to shooting mine but that bell shaped grip on the python is all sorts of whacky to get used to. Id much rather have "combat grips" or whatever theyre called. Im a big fan of the python and anaconda but the factory installed grips on them arent the greatest.

It is on the works. The gunsmith thatbis doing the finish is relocating so he is aboutnall set up in his new place. I have new grips for it already

NO !!! Make it look as close as possible to a Trooper Mark 3 In my opinion the Trooper Mark 3 is the best variant of the Trooper family, better than the Mark 5 too. Replace those ugly grip panels with the nice Wood Factory Mark 3 Originals. If you want something that no one else has you might consider a 2 tone. That nice Colt Blue and Nickel. I would vote for a highly polished Colt blue. I have a Colt Python from the ‘80 and a Colt Trooper also from the ‘80 both with that beautiful Royal Blue. Ricky from IBM

If you can find someone that could do laser engraving, mark it "Benton Custom" possible they could revive some of the Colt markings too, just an idea.

Like state trooper pistol ? I've never heard of one of those that's an awesome gun it would be interesting to see you convert it over to mag .38 is very underpowered NICE gun though I don't care enough about the trooper to bother me what you do to it I'd leave it alone but if you are gonna royal blue it go for it plus extra power but royal blue for sure and those grips not gonna sugar coat it are ugly as hell you said the python grips will fit ? It kinda looks like the revolver that Jim Carrey broke out of the police station with on the movie the mask

@@TerryBenton yeah it looks like that colt didn't think those grips through they just figured I'm going to put huge thumb rest on each side of the gun that looks beautiful not lol I kinda like the existing barrel though I think it would look awesome if you just got it done in royal blue and then put some nice Walnut grips on it as long as the barrel can withstand the 357 Magnum pressure when you switch out the cylinder that colt looks so old it looks like it might be in Old Smith & Wesson 32 Smith & Wesson long I do wonder if those grips came stock or were added after the fact because colt even on their old stuff they made really pretty guns and extremely well functioning so do you think I would be able to have a 4in barrel put on my old Smith & Wesson model 10 chambered only in 38 special as well as a 357 mag rated cylinder? Because I know it's the old FBI special gun but at the same time 38 is just too light for me and that little thing is actually accurate but the even plus p 38 rounds are just extremely low velocity which takes away a ton of foot-pounds of energy even with the 38 specials you can see a bunch of unburned powder all over that place including the paper Target depending on how close you are I wouldn't be one of the annoying people to bug the crap out of you all the time but I had a few questions for you regarding experience with certain handguns qaqa and it would just take me way too long to ask all of that threw a comment but look me up on Facebook if you have one and I will message you my number I would post it on here but I don't want a million people having my phone number you seem to have a lot of handgun knowledge I'm no stranger by any means to any firearms but I think you can help me learn a few things if you don't mind my real name is actually Tanner Norton I don't really post any pics of me with my guns on Facebook a you will see a profile picture of me standing in front of a fish tank with my face looking like I'm mad for some reason I have no idea why LOL but that pic was posted when I was in way better shape clash I was only 15 maybe close to 16 in that pic not describing myself to you to sound like a homo just so you know what my profile pic kind of looks like if you decide to send me a friend request no drama on my Facebook only family and Good times so I will try to send you one if I can find you on there that is if you don't mind

@@tannernorton7868 if you think 38. Is underpowered you're not finding the right bullets. Underwood and buffalo bore make some nasty +p 38. Special loads. And I'm sure the Colt would chug a good amount of them downrange before parts/timing started going out.
