How long is the handle on your net when you’re fishing the platform?
@OutsidersOutdoorCo
11 ай бұрын
Handle plus the net length is around 12ft👍 I've got the EGO S2 slider so it collapses to 4ft and you can detached the head for easy transportation👍

I’ve been tying my droppers off a double surgeons lately. I rarely ever seem to get grabs on my first fly when running tandems off the back of the hook for some reason.
@OutsidersOutdoorCo

Interesting, I just tie a clinch knot directly on my 1st hook, I seem to get a pretty even distribution of hits on both hooks

Totally. For beads it probably doesn’t make a huge difference. The year round bead hatch is my favorite. Pisses so many people off for some reason 🤣

Curious why you guys use such light gear at a fishery like that. In the NW we have lots of these fisheries(usually just below hatcheries) but people use much heavier gear so they can drag the fish in against the current. Eg. my go to bobber setup is a 9,6 ml 8-15# rod, 20# braid to 15# flouro leader, but in a hole like that people would be more apt to use a 10,6 heavy 20-30# rod, 50# braid/30#mono to 25# flouro leader. Light gear seems to be a thing in the midwest so I'm genuinely curious.

The fish here are very line shy they just wont bite with too heavy of a leader
@OutsidersOutdoorCo

Yea, for some reason the fish are very line shy especially when the water clarity is crystal clear. You can use 15lb all day with no bites, but once you move to 12lb or 10lb they'll start hitting. Could also be because there is more pressure in the great lakes, so the fish are used to seeing the heavy line.

In that Niagara river current, lighter lb test line (8-12 lb test) will get the presentation down toward the bottom more effectively than heavier lb test (15 lb test or heavier) line. It's best to use rods at least 8 ft long if your leaders are less than 15 lb test, otherwise you're going to break off fish with shorter fishing rods and light-weight leaders. If your rod is less than 8 ft, I don't recommend going below 15 lbs test fluoro. As much as I loathe fishing with anything lighter than 15 lb test fluoro for Steelhead in the Lower Niagara (in general, even with longer rods), in strong current your terminal tackle won't get into the strike zone effectively with heavier line. People always claim Steelhead (and other species) are line shy...I've simply found that isn't the case. I've had miserable days with light lb test line and 20-30 Steelhead-to-the-bank days with my tackle tied directly to braid or heavier lb fluoro leaders, 15 lb or heavier. Always use fluoro leaders...use lighter leaders in faster current (as light as you can go without breaking fish off...again, longer rods allow use of lighter lb test line since they take pressure off the line). You can get away with heavier lb test fluoro in stained/calmer waters.
