Just, also pretend for a moment that this is the original C-64 that Rob Hubbard composed his tunes on, with annotations and manic scribblings over older scribblings over years and years, and this akin to the original piano on which Beethoven composed his Ninth Symphony, the Commodore being long forgotten and stashed in a studio storeroom somewhere, lost to time and space, until a curious young sound engineer rummaged through the archives one droll night and fell upon this magnificent treasure. The thing embodies hacker culture like you could cut it with a knife, echoes of epochs resound in this fantastic machine! It is a testament to the true spirit of hacking, this is what C64 was made for! It fought for the User! Loving and loyal and goofy and frantic, like a dog, a wonderful companion ever cheering you on on your gnarly path through life, never straying from your side, it would never mind occasional harsh words and treatment, it was used to it, it was prepared for it, it was built for it- forever abide, forever ready to carry what burden weighed on its master's shoulders, even though it sometimes barked all night, grumped out, and peed on the floor. Whatever amendments and modifications and notations and defacements were made, they were made with love, and one can sense that the soul of the C64 itself would be pleased with its final form. Damn it, why can't I be sentimental about normal things like girlfriends or plush toys...

+gerth robovcak and, you can program the midi interface in basic! for non timing critical things, this can do a lot - you can create your own visuals, driven by note on commands - with print, sprite, gfx... as far as you grasp the c=64. of course you can use it in assembler too, but for basic there is an add on called "midi basic" by rainer buchty of ensoniq last outpost fame, which makes it really easy to control, it even can do continuous controllers and midiclock - but basic is too slow for proper clock handling. yea, the marketing guy... you can transfer data by midi cable, this means - almost any modern platform computer with midi interface can transfer programs to flash or just transfer and launch them directly. the cart disk emulation is still work in progress (two virtual disk images in kerberos flash memory), the transfer of a disk to flash is very slow - but it works flawless - and if you have no other method of transferring - you can also transfer a .d64 to a real disk via midi. the flash memory is decently sized to have any music .prg you will ever need, trackers can be stored to cartridge disk to store instruments and songs. and then there is also cynthcart, probably this is the cheapest way to get midi to your c=64 and still have a decent amount of control over the sound.

Mr. Martin Galway, thank you sincerely, your comment made my day. I spent a lot of time listening to your SID compositions back then and still today. A simple midi to SID playback will of course never reach the complexity of a real composed chiptune, a compromise to integrate to a midi setup with other gear. Some parameters are accessible via CC and automatic filter or pwm modulation can be added, but the real power still lies in using a tracker.

It's just a very punk 8 bit Commodore 64 running the "cynthcart" application, it's fed notes via DIN midi by an Alesis MMT-8 sequencer, later you can see how i tap the tempo on a Roland RE space echo pedal and switch it on, I actually cut the springs inside the pedal so it's easier to tap by hand. It's no magic but not many people use this machine, with cynthcart it is very convenient, you can hook up potentiometers to remote control parameters, normally on the joystick port but I built them into the enclosure, it's better for stage performance. And there is a car reversal monitor so I can see what is going on, patch, parameter etc, but it also works fine without a screen. The stuff written on the case is all relevant to stage performance as I do not want to look things up on a paper, you cannot save anything in cynthcart but you can call up parameters by keyboard. See my video "cynthcart on Kerberos" if youre interested in this stuff. Yeah sure it looks punk, but this is a workhorse, not on a collector shelf ;-)

@@kosmotheprotogen There are so many things I could reply with... I will never sell this machine, so value does not matter. I can do with it what I want and do not worry to lose anything. I also have synthesizers that are just marked up in a similar way, like the boomstar 4075 which retails for 1000$. We are an electronic music project that performs live without a DAW or PC/MAC, in worst case we play on a dark stage so I am marking up settings directly on the gear. We do not have papers with notes and cannot load presets, everything is set realtime. Absolutely none of these markings are added for fun or art, everything has it's purpose. Also 400$ seems a bit exaggerated, but maybe the market in US is different, I only know you really have insane prices for pinball machines over there, almost double of European market.
