Four of the most common transition metal-catalyzed cross coupling reactions are the Stille, Suzuki, Negishi and Heck reactions. In each case a new C-C bond is formed between two organic molecules, and a byproduct is produced. These reactions most commonly employ palladium catalysts and in the case of Suzuki and Heck reactions, a base is also required.
