A four foot long Common Garter Snake predates two chicks from a Savannah Sparrow nest. One of the chicks is a Brown-headed Cowbird, a well-known brood parasite.
The nest was on the ground tucked into the grasses on the side of a small dune in an open area near the ocean.
This was filmed on Iona Island, Richmond, B.C., Canada.
This occurred on May 21st, 1995.
